If You Could Go Back In Time

Which era would you go to? The good part is you get to keep what you know right now.

You cannot go back to earlier in your own life though, which is what most people would want to do, methinks. You have to go to another era entirely. You'd make a pretty weird cowboy with your strange ideas, right? You'd be good around the campfire though. How about a Viking? Maybe you would like to try ancient Sumeria or see how the pyramids were built.

Where and when would you go to, and why?

I'd go back to the early 1950's. Knowing now the importance of being serious about school I would be very studious and lay a foundation for advanced learning. I'd also choose my friends more carefully, choosing friends that had high moral values and a serious outlook on life. These are the kind of friends that we all need.

I'm bi***ual so I'd go back the least amount of time possible. If I can't go back to any point during my life I'd go back to the year before my birth.

I ain't going back to the 1600s and getting executed for having a threeway with a chick and a dude.

I wouldn't go. Sure, I could go back to the day before I was born (allowed per your rules) to make good money on buying Apple stock etc., but that takes time and I'd still be stuck in the late-80s, My law degree would be meaningless since I wouldn't be able to practice law to make money (and even if I did a lot has changed in the practice of law since then - i.e. I wouldn't even know how to do legal research without Westlaw or Lexis online databases) and I would be stuck with 80's/90's music, TV, and video games. Don't get me wrong, I like Gilligan's island and Super Mario Bros, but I need some 4k GoTs and Elden Ring now.

I could go back further, but lets be real, we wouldn't fit in anywhere 200+ years back. We would talk funny and would stick out as foreigners/witches/spys. If we wouldn't get killed for being different we would die of the illnesses and poor living conditions that claimed most commoners back then.

        My ass is staying put.

Exactly! It’s easy to romanticize the past, but the harsh realities like disease and social norms would make it a nightmare.

Ya think we could live a life with fewer regrets if we went back knowing what we know now?

You may need ancient Rome or Greece.

I believe I am versatile enough to survive in any era. However what I realized is I still could not change the world or its future very much at all. Sure, the Sumerians might believe my arithmetic was awfully good. I would even be able to teach them some algebra, which still might not shake the world much.

If I were allowed to take along a calculus text to review, I might be able to shake society and history up, but that is not allowed. Most of us will remain grunts during that life too.

My first answer would usually be ancient Egypt

However, if i get to keep what i know now, id go to the same time and place and Jesus. The reason being is the story of Jesus is a wild exaggeration. He was probably just a wise and intelligent fella for the time that was an early cult leader, he manipulated people into believing him and the stories got out of hand.

If you went back to that era with all the knowledge of technology and everything else from today, you could easily make a much bigger splash than Jesus and make a way better cult.
