All team sports included, a pitcher has to be the lonliest player of all. I can't find any other position in any team sport that equals that of the pitcher.

A quarterback having a bad day can turn to the running back, a goalie in hockey gets backup from his defenders.
Is there a team sport that holds a more vulnerable position than that of the pitcher?
