I was really looking forward to this, the lustre has been taken off a little bit. It's not a bad score but it's not the AAA game I thought it would be.

I'll probably rent it.
84 means mixed reviews. It's a survival horror game and these tend to get mixed reviews because people don't like the format. Silent Hill 2 got 89% and that is the best survival horror game I ever played.

Resident Evil 4 got very high, regardless. Alan Wake has some genuine flaws apparently, the start is very slow, its short. the gameplay is flawed.
On the plus side, the atmosphere, graphics and story and meant to be excellent. I'm a huge fan of the survival horror genre, but one of the biggest strengths of the survival horror genre; replayability is absent from this game.
Silent Hill is a great game, I agree. 84 isn't a bad score. But IMO the difference between an 84 and a 89 especially on metacritic is quite alot. Not that reviews mean anything if you enjoy the game.

I was reading some of the reviews on Silent Hill 2 (which managed a few 100% scores) and the reviews panned things like the story and the pace. Like I say it's a genre that you either love or hate, and a lot of people hate it. Resident Evil 4 and 5 are not really survival horror, they're more action-adventure in a horror setting. Action-adventures will receive higher scores in general.
I'm looking forward to Alan Wake, may pick it up early on. My biggest concern is that it is supposed to be a 10 hour game. Not much to it then.
it's been in development for bloody ages now and made by the same people who did MP. I'm expecting this game to be real good, and i'll have to buy a 360 just to play it

so it better be bloody good
You'd be ****** to buy a console just for one game, and a 10 hours game at that. With no replayability.

It's might be good, but it's not worth $150
i was thinking of buying one off ebay, the older models that people sell off cheap because of the RROD. hopefully i can get one for 60/70 quid, quickly finish the game, then flog it back on there again.
that's the plan anyway
might buy a WII again just to play Super Mario Galaxy 2 aswell

10 hour game... it's been in development since 2005. smh
It's not a casual game, hence it's difficult to get a high score, it's not my sort of game but if you like survival horror rent it and you might like it.

I made the mistake of buying a Wii for Metroid Prime 3, After I was done with that I bought Mario Kart, Galaxy and Brawl.
