    Fighting at 168

So I posted my debut fight on here not too long ago against me vs a smaller, but more experienced and much faster punching opponent to which I lost a decision to so I am planning to cut in weight for my next fight, reasons being...

190 is a very awkward weight to be, my boxing coach struggled to find me an opponent, it was either against Cruiser weights that had established knock out power or put me in a speed vs power fight like he ended up having to do. I currently haven't established knock out power yet this is probably due to previously having spinal surgery etc but that power will come, it's something I am working on.

I just feel I will get a much more fair fight if I was to be at a weight of 168, more boxers weigh between the 140's to 175 then they do for higher weight classes, it has a deeper pond. I am not looking for easy fights ofc not but I've already done one freak fight and for my second bout I want someone my level and around my weight as I am in there to practice after all. The fights I take don't even count on your record.

My body has quite a bit of fat on it so getting to 168 is quite possible, I do have those pounds of fat I can lose. But getting to it by December 20th? Would I be okay? I know it's do-able but I want advice from those that have to take cutting seriously in a healthy way. So advice would be really appreciated.

Also if I am to be 168, would I naturally be faster? I feel very slow at 190 and it just isn't me. I only got this big due to medical steroids from having back problems.

Fighting at 168 or 175 as a last resort has to be better than being a fat and chunky slow 190er. But I'm wanting advice. 190 to 168 ??

I think that's more of an idea for you and your big fat BBQ fingers, running them on this forum and looking for a reaction out of people instead of actually doing something positive and offering advice, which is what I am looking for fyi.

I can picture you A. being a big fat troll or B. being that horrible gym bully that puts people down because he's butthurt at the fact he never made it big so spends his time putting new comers down in hope that they won't make it neither.

      Boxing doesn't need your kind.

Considering he's on the training forum I'm guessing he's half decent. As for you that was a shocking anti-boxing display from yourself. At 23 I'd strongly advise that you retire.

In my boxing gym they had a simple rule for losing weight “don’t eat anything white except meat”. That meant just eat white meat and try to eat the darkest coloured fruits and veggies. It also meant mostly cutting out bread and potatoes and rice. Granted I usually had less than 10 lbs to drop but it always worked.

Sure you should drop weight if you've got some to lose. Yes you'll be quicker and lighter on your feet. You will be healthier in general. Only one way to lose weight, eat less calories than you burn. Intermittent fasting is a good way to cut back on your caloric intake, but takes some adjustments. fasted exercise will drop the pounds quickly. If you don't want to do intermittent fasting, just eat less and exercise more.

Just lose the weight and see where you're at. You can't do this stuff on paper, put in the work and be patient. A boxer shouldn't be carrying any extra fat below 200lbs.

You've got about ten weeks, which works out to a little under 2.5 lbs per week. It can be done with a lot of discipline and cardio. You also have the advantage of youth. The thing is, you don't want to drain yourself for the fight. Work hard, and monitor your weight and energy levels.
