Are sore knuckles something you should 'push thru'?

Saw this said on a Johnny Goosen interview. I've recently really thrown myself back into training, and had been working the Heavy Bag hard as my main conditioning for around two weeks. I got sore knuckles on my lead hand, and took two weeks off Heavy Bag, focussing instead on shadow boxing and conditioning without impact.

On the Goosen video he said that having sore knuckles was a process, and effectively you are toughening them up. I'd never heard this before, and am curious to other people's views on the matter.

Depends. If you plan to do it as a career, but I try not to risky injuries. You can seriously hurt your hand to the point where you wont be able to land punches with pain until the bruising heals.

It's true, when I started boxing my knuckles were hurting all the time, so not knowing if I injured them or not, I went to a doctor, who beside trying to convince me to stop boxing and find another sport to compete in as all the doctors do, told me himself it was normal for the beginners and he was right. Since then my knuckles got accustomed to the heavybag workout and were never hurt since.

Depends on whether or not you feel you should give it a break. I dont hit the heavy back if it's csusing me pain (usually). Find a softrr bag, seriously, a lot of boxers have ****ed up hands, don't try to be a tough guy.

You definitely shouldn't push through bruises if you ask Rigondeaux.

Jokes aside, let it heal, train smart, do something else in the meantime.

Yeah definitely and uppercutting some elderly folk works wonders for conditioning.

Pain is the indicator of our nerve system, telling us something bad is about to happen. Don't hurt it so bad that it can't be repaired/healed between the training sessions.
