    Conditioning Self Tests

In addition to "everything else" I need to increase my conditioning to do a good job on my first Fight Night towards the end of May. I'm learning the mechanics, sparring, and working on my conditioning all at the same time. I'm not working strength at this time as there are so many recovery hours in the day and my strikes will get "stronger" as I become better, more efficient, and so on.

So ... I know I can gauge my conditioning from sparring and will always look to be in better shape but is there any way that each of you "self-test" yourself to see where you are at? Simulated rounds on the heavy bag with rests between rounds? Run on the highway dodging vehicles and time how long you live?

Just brainstorming here, but you could see how many burpees you can do without stopping, or see how many sprints you can do before getting too winded to continue. I'm not sure what you would measure it against other than a time when you knew you weren't in peak shape.

Good thinking. I think, as you hit on, it may not give me an indication of my fight night readiness, but it would give me a measure of progress AND if I captured some of those measurements I'd have something to compare against next time.

Obviously, each fight is different, but it's something.

I'll wait to see if anybody else chimes in but this may be a fun thing to start doing. And by fun I mean painful.

Def a good way to test your conditioning is by doing some cardio type exercises, at least thats what I do to tell how out of shape I am.

An even better way to test out your over-all conditioning is to spar and see how gassed you are after 2 rounds.........

I agree with that and will be doing that each Friday. I didn't know if there is anything else that people do.

I used to do Crossfit, where I was introduced to burpees. My god they suck.

But I agree. They are a pretty good test.

some other things.... be able to jump rope for at least 30mins with no breaks, able to spar double the number of rounds of the actual fight, Killer drills on heavy bag for shoulder endurance, where you are throwing constant left right punches non stop....maybe 1 minute of each 3 min round. At times endurance can be more important than skill.

I'm gonna start throwing some burpees into my routine they are good. Thanks for suggesting this
