How much should I hit the gym?

This might sound like a ****** question but I am a thirteen year old boxer who started boxing in August and has brilliant handspeed, power and footwork, overall I am very naturally talented at boxing. However, my parents have restricted me two one boxing session every week/other week or so.

Because of this I workout every day at home, every day on a different muscle group, I work on my technique and strategy and shadowbox daily etc etc.

What chance have I got to make it to the top, I'm worried this restriction could give me a bad chance.

You just started in August and have been going once a week? That's roughly 22 weeks and most guys are training 3-5 days a week as an AM. At 3 days a week you have 7.5 weeks training and at 5 days you have about 4.5 weeks. This is too soon for you to "know" that you have brilliant handspeed, power and footwork, and overall are very naturally talented at boxing. It's great you have confidence but once you start having fights, you might be in for a rude awakening so be prepared and don't let it discourage you.

What kind of equipment do you have at home? That will tell how much you can do at home without it hampering your progress too much. For your 1 session a week, do you get a lot of one on one time with the trainer?

Hey thanks for replying, in my one session which is two hours I get a fair amount of one to one time but it depends.

At home I don't have much but Im gonna get a double end bag soon.

By the way, my trainer is the one who says I am good at these things and I've also noticed differences in me and fairly experienced sparring opponents etc.

I also train at home daily, go to gym on Friday where I hit the heavy bag etc, I also play other sports a lot.

      Thanks for the advice

Well lets say you are that "talented", nevertheless you just trained for 5 months and one day per week.

Thats simply not enough thats 20 session in total (+-) and this is the amount other kids in your age are doing per month (kids who are serious about boxing).

So if you are also serious then convince your parents that boxing is your passion and you wanna do more.

And btw dont wanna discourage you, keep up the good work but
5 months and only 20 sessions is way to few to talk about being a natural. I doubt that.

Once every week or two is way not enough..unless your dedication to home training is through the roof. Even if so..you have to be a prodigy to absorb all the necessary technique to expound upon in just a session or two every two weeks. You're giving yourself more of a fighting chance the more tutelage you recieve..that's just real.

The more one on one you get the better. Basically if you are only getting 1 session a week or so, you want the most of it and your trainer to be working on your form, technique, etc. Have him set you up what he wants you to work on at home and get him involved more than just having him work with you a little bit at the gym. The better you can make that relationship, the more you will prosper. Though you may be as talented as your trainer tells you, keep in mind part of it is building your confidence. Don't dwell on it but let it reassure you that you aren't wasting your time.

Try and get your parents to let you go twice a week at minimum. Ideally you should be there 3 times a week but getting it to 2 is doubling what you have now. Double end bags are great, but I would think about a heavy bag first. Right now your biggest thing to learn is technique and the heavy is great for that. Work hard and the more you put into ti the more you will get out of it. Feel free to message me if you need anything.

1 day a week is rough lil man, you really need to try to get in the gym 3 days a week because focus mitts is a super important workout for someone your age. You need to learn accuracy and timing most of all. Speed and power will come with experience and as your body grows. But 2 things I highly suggest if you cannot convince your parents to let you go more than 1x a week. Get yourself a jump rope, itll not only strengthen your legs but itll teach you rythm and timing. Also dont EVER forget road work, get out on the street, throw a pair of headphones on, and get lost in a long jog while throwing punches, itll improve your balance and harden your joints. Lastly, get yourself a tennis ball, hang it from the roof with some fishing string to about your chin, swing it and move your head while throwing punches.
