It was free for me since I did join the boxing team at my base but I checked a civilian gym for my son and it's 50 a month. That's not including some of the equipment you'll have to buy like mouthpieces, training shoes, handwraps. If your skeavish about using public boxing gloves and headgear then it gets more expensive if you buy your own. I have never spent a dime on lessons just on equipment. Oh and if you want to avoid getting jumped then I suggest you try some sort of self defense course. Boxing is good for one on ones. I've been jumped twice because my boxing was a problem. The only thing that saved me was all these hand to hand combat courses that the Army sent me to. If that or talking it out doesn't work, run!

Dawg u dont take boxing cause ur gonna get jumped or to fight in the streets. Boxing is a sport. And if ur gonna get jumped some time soon, boxing wont help u. It taked a long time to get good at boxing, not jus a few days.

It's free for me, but rates run from 70-80 bucks for 3 sessions, to 200 for a month.
Best thing you can do is show up at your local gym.
Talk to the head trainer, and see if something can be set up. Chances are, you'll be able to train a couple of times for free, as almost like a feeling out process. If you have some talent, you'll probably get to join for free under certain conditions i.e. represent them in a tourny when you get ready, or something along those lines.
