    5x5 training for boxing?

    Hi guys

I'm 56kg, 6foot and want to build a bit of strength while maintaining my speed at the same time. I've been told to do 5x5 training once a week, and in the week I should do tons of plyometrics.
Will this increase my strength and allow me to keep my speed to how it is at the moment?

I think that's only at Burger King, the 5x5......

I think it is probably great for boxing. But squatting 3 times a week may make any other exercise hard.

Just reread OP. Doing the 5x5 once a week you wont see nearly as much as the strength gains as doing it 3 times. Honestly I think it may pay to cut out one of the plyo days and do 5x5 twice a week.

IMO its not really a suitable routine for a boxer. Its basically the rippetoes program.
        Its a strongman/powerlifting routine.

Essentially *gains* will come down to your diet but can you afford to gain weight?
I think you should look at building explosiveness and conditioning more than strength especially if you're not a heavyweight. Especially if you're new to lifting, you'll gain strength along the way anyway.

To me its like a marathon runner going to the gym & training as if hes bodybuilder.

Plyometrics will give little benefit without strength.

You would gain more by training for strength twice per week (full body) and leaving out the plyometrics at this stage.

Strength training won't reduce your speed if done correctly - it will increase it.

56 kg at 6 foot seems really light to the point that it isn't healthy. Is there a reason for that?
