Why do so few fighters include the jab to the body as a key part of their arsenal?

Is it a lack of timing, speed, mastery of technique and schooling?

Tommy Hearns and Floyd Mayweather Jr. had/have great jabs to the body.

Because if you aren't quick enough with it you are susceptible to a right hand especially if you are fighting a long fighter....atleast that's how I feel when someone does it to me

Cause a jab to the body does no damage but a right hand counter to the chin does.

If you are Kovalev it does damage but yeah I see your point. It's a good way to get points in a round especially against someone with a high guard, you need to have good timing though. Mayweather is really great at this.

A jab to the body is a stinging punch.

Yeah if you are much faster then your opponent it's a nice way to score but against an equally skilled and fast fighter i wouldn't use it.

It might sting if you throw it nice to the solar plexus but it's high risk the way you position yourself, the top and side of your head is right there for your opponents right hand. I almost never use it, if if had near the speed and timing of floyd i might.

the shoulder protects the chin which is the sweet spot

Yeah the chin is relatively protected but it dosen't feel good to take an overhand right above the ear.

i agree it doesn't feel good to get hit and those type of shots can off your equilibrium but i would rather you hit the helmet and possibly break your hand.
