I scored the fight 116-113 for Broner. People need to learn to stop awarding points for simply being busy. The vast majority of Paulie's punches landed on the shoulders, arms or gloves of Broner. Those punches DON'T SCORE!
Paulie fought a good fight though. He got walked down because he still wouldn't commit to his punches and never got Broner's respect.
I would like to see Broner come forward behind a jab a LOT more than he does. He is pretty predictable and he will eventually need to show some more versatility if he wants to become elite. He could actually learn a lot from Canelo in this department. Canelo is VERY effective at walking guys down and opening up combinations BEHIND the jab. Paulie was getting off first virtually everytime Broner walked him down because he just walked in, never behind anything.
But when people say Broner is there to get hit....ehhh, maybe. He is there. He doesn't move his head a lot. He stands straight up. But boy is he hard to hit. You could see Paulie LOOKING for openings and not finding many at all. Broner's build suit his defensive style perfectly. His shoulders are massive and act like huge shields. I still think considering how offensive he is, he is impressive defensively.Last edited by mconstantine; 06-24-2013, 08:31 PM.

I'll go with the guy who's punching over the guy who's posing every time.
Not every shot in those exchanges his arms and shoulders and gloves. The hooks to both sides of the body often landed, the finishing jab often landed and the repeated jab to the chest in the triangle of space that Broner left open in his defense always landed.
I thought it was a close fight that could have gone either way, but I get tired of this idea that landing a punch or two somehow counts less than landing NO punches and shaking one's head.

And you don't know WTF you were watching if you think Broner wasn't landing on Paulie. He was landing CLEEEAN.

After a couple of minutes and/ or rounds, Broner is going to decide whether or not he can take Paulie's punch well enough to just start walking in.
As previously stated, my problem is that Broner was JUST walking in. No jab, no sticking his left hand out to blind/ measure and no real footwork. He truly just walked in like Paulie was at 135.
Honestly, I expected him to do just that, it was Paulie taking everything so well that I didn't expect. Paulie fought the best fight he could but he also took some tremendous, accurate punches extremely well.
I think Broner's inability to adjust on the fly is what's going to be his downfall moreso than him casually standing in front of his opponents. It's the twelfth round, his corner is still telling him to go to the body while he's still trying to get Paulie out of there with a single shot.
I felt around the tenth round, he should have been focusing on catching Paulie with, at least, the straight with the left hook behind it. The thought should have been, if one flush shot can't get him out of here, give him two.
Paulie kept dropping his head a couple of levels after a lot of those flush punches, which opened him up to even more combination possibilities. I didn't see Broner put himself in position to land those shots.

Also, walking in and counter punching is what Broner does. It's what he's always done so why was it so surprising.

I marked it 8 to 4 for Broner! he got his 12 rounds in and Paulie did his thing and landed on his feet! He lost his BS belt and his BS "side piece" but picked up a million!! The hype for the fight was goofy and after was silly! These guys got paid for sparring and both got what they wanted, except Paulie with the "side piece" loss!! HA!
To hear everyone yak about who won just keeps things very clear on how little the people who post the most here know about boxing!
Your going to have fights that come on with hype but when they're played out their farces!!! Mayweather vs Robert was a joke with Mayweather running all night because we found out that Roberts power stayed with Berto!
Broner vs Paulie was a farse because Paulie can't punch, if he could it would have been a decent match up! .........and the money still rolls on......Ray.
