    Old school training methods?

What are some old school training methods?

Looking for more hands-on workouts, not into machines at the gym and that type of crap.

Bat to the tire is a good one.

What have you guys heard of, or have tried?

A job on the docks? - I've tried convincing my fighters that mowing lawns and building decks and painting houses are old school training techniques, and I offered up my house for a minimal charge . . . No takers though

        Chopping wood, bailing hay.

Or try wrestling a live grizzly bear.

Too dangerous, you could pull a muscle bailing hay.

Don't forget you can also chase a chicken, or punch frozen beef.

Check out this guys site for some exercises mimicking the kind of manual labor/farm work the old timers did to supplement their training.

Some exercises include chopping wood, shoveling, and churning butter. But it's more feasible to use a sledgehammer to simulate these movements in your basement than to gain access to a farm where you can do this work out in the country.

LOL, I read through the shovelglove thing, I am so going to try this. It sounds entertaining and fits the kind of workout I enjoy.

I'm particularly fond of the "defending the wall" thing he's talking about. Reminds me of being a 9 years old.

True, punching beef sounds good but tugging your own beef sounds more fun. Great for the forearms.

Dempsey said that between fights he would muck ore in the mines. Mucking ore is shoveling rock into one ton carts and then pushing them to where they are hooked up and towed out. You do this 10 hours per day. he said he enjoyed the work. In the early 1900s, in the town where I live, they used to have 'miner olympics' and mucking ore was an event. The objective was to load one ton of ore, then push the cart 50 feet in the least amount of time. Guys were doing this insanely fast, under 2 minutes I believe.

I had mentioned to be careful pulling a muscle ... I've been pulling the same muscle for 30 years.
