Should u do like jab only rounds? should u do left only rounds?? how do you guys all do your sparring... I have been sparing with a few guys and every time we get in there it gets pretty intence/rough None of us have been boxing for maor than a couple years One guy has a 20-3 record as an amature.. But the rest of us have been trainning for our first contest....on another forum a guy wrote
Sparring should ONLY be used as a learning tool, it's not about winning or losing when it comes to sparring. It is through sparring that one tries to better himself, by working on his techniques. If you can't hold form or if the sparring gets out of control, then it's pretty useless for what you are trying/hoping to achieve. You & your sparring partner should work together, practicing on your weak areas.
Sparring time: Spar only slightly longer than your competition match would be. If a match is to be three 2 minute rounds, then spar for 3 rounds at 2 1/2 minutes each. Train intense, but safe & wisely. Too long of rounds will make you a slower paced fighter. I suggest to spar once a week, then off the next. On your off week figure out what were your weaknesses, then practice on these in your training.
Here are a few sparring drills:
1) Jab only.
2) Two punch combinations only.
3) One person works on defense only.
4) Shadow box sparring.
5) Do 50% sparring, by pulling your punches.
6) "Simon says Sparring"; one of you is the aggressor, the aggressor throws a punch & the other throws the exact same punch back.
7) Free form sparring; with only straight punches.
I asked
Are You saying spar only once a week??? everyother week?? wow..... I have been sparring almost 4 or 5 days a week. we get pretty agressive. I am new to boxing and have only did it about 1 year. They guy I have been mostly been sparring with...Has over 30 amatuer fights and has only lots two.. We usually go for about 6 or 7 3 min rounds ..... 3 min rounds ... I do ok untill I start getting tiered then I make bad mistakes. I have been beat up bad at times with sore jaw/ribs ect.. also evertime we bring a new guy into the gym...he ends up quitting after a few weeks and they never come back. Im trainning for a toughman contest Its 3 ... 1 min rounds with 45 second breaks... so please explain what type of sparring workout I should do... One thing I have learded is that my trainner loved to see us go at it!! he like when we pound each other,,,,.....lol anyway I do ok but then I get winded and do really bad at times... so let me know..
whats your Idea????
