Both have their pros and cons. A professional boxing career can heap in wealth, fame, endorsements and all other sorts of fringe benefits. However to achieve them you have to give it more than your all and by that I mean really going the distance where you put aside everything else and do nothing but train, train, train and train boxing. Simply put you live for boxing. If you decide to go down that path, remember to safeguard your money wisely you don't want to end up like Rocky Balboa.
A college education or more will to some extent provide a source of steady income depending on what your profession is. However, in today's world a college degree is becoming less and less meaningful. The high paying jobs many college graduates seek are nowhere to be found and that is why myself and other graduates have to be working at dead end jobs that barely cover expenses. One of my contemporaries graduated with a degree in medicine and has been unable to find work and she works two minimum wage jobs: one as a pharmacy cashier and the other as an exotic dancer(not a joke!). So you have to choose wisely. My folks recently set up a laundromat where I now work at and its slowly paying dividends. One on hand it allows me to put my business degree to use but I also have to deal with people who are way beyond arrogant and have nearly made me go postal on more than one occasion.
To make things simple TS, do both. Just make sure you devote time, discipline and dedication to both. For the record I'm doing both as well.
I would do both so that at least if the boxing thing doesn't work out you have something to fall back on. Look at the Klitschko Bros, both of them hold doctorate degrees in sports management or something to that affect and both obviously have had a lot of success in boxing...
School has got to be the priority unless you're Mike Tyson and by that I mean special. You have got to have sthg to fall back on if you get injured, knocked tfo or whatever. the chances of becoming a top flight fighter are slim to none.
go to school and the gym afterwards (and before if there is time in a day).
