What you guys do to gain punching power

I was curious, what does the population of boxingscene do to improve punching power?

Myself, I am a big believer in technique, and leg strength. I believe power comes from the legs and that your arms and fist are simply away of transferring that power.

I also believe in "snapping" punches. I mean, snapping the heavy bag so that it makes a loud "SMACK" sound and makes the bag jiggle, instead of making a dull thud against the bag.

I also work on being two-handed, and not relying on any one punch.

Yeah you pretty much answered the question.

    Technique, correct stance, leg strength.
Twisting with your legs, hips, back, shoulder & turning your hands over.

An example of perfect technique IMO would be Mike Tyson

yeah, joe louis was a great two handed puncher. He put his whole body into the punch.

Tyson, man that guy is a beast when it comes to power punching

Tyson had ferocious power, the torque he was able to generate from those huge quads was insane.

          One hell of a puncher.

Don't want to brag but I'm kind of a viscous puncher.
It sits a lot in your shoulders/shoulderblades, hips, your back, thighs I think.

one thing you can do to learn to torque your punches is to first turn your torso, then stretch your arm out as far as you can, just the arm first.
Then stretch your shoulder blades out, then your lats .
Train it in slowmo first then speed it upp.
You should probably warm up before you do it.

The left hook is another power punch i absolutely love to use.
Train palm down instead of palm in so that you are forced to train the body torque.
You should also shadowbox a lot, I mean 15 min everyday so you develop combos and both your hands.

I get in my boxing stance...put a medicine ball in one of my hands...I get a partner...and we toss that back and forth memicking throwing a punch..also hitting the heavy bag imporves power as well.....during the medicine ball drill u can either work on one punch at a time specificly or to ****e things up i have my students..throw the punch from where they catch it...ex...if i have catch it low and on the left side of my body...i throw a body jab w the medicine ball back to the partner and so on...

Thank you for posting that bro..I think it's very important for people to practice the left hook (right hook for southpaws) with the palm down, it's much more powerful when done correctly.

Have them do that and incorporate a squat in their stance after each throw, and they'll build a stronger base as they're improving their torque and strength.

physical power doesn't play as much in the role of knocking people out as some would have you believe. accuracy, timing and precision are more important. that all comes from experience (mostly competition but sparing as well). which is something most of the best clubs in the country will teach. for example we went to London to train with west ham and did about 8 rounds of sparing because it builds up experince in the ring. this is why old school trainers get annoyed when mostly mma people go on about weight training and all that. because they are ignorant as to how real power is gained. which is why an in experienced boxer with a great deal of physical strength and ability to punch bags and pads and what not is likely to get knocked out by someone with less physical strength but more experience.
