In your opinion does doing weight reduce your speed? Is it also true or false that doing weights reduces the reach in your arm? I need to find a few case studies on the 2 topics.

STRENGTH weight training will actually increase your speed (if you try to move the weight fast, regardless of how slow it actually goes).
Just lifting for size or for the hell of it isn't going to help, and could actually hurt.
As for diminishing the reach in your arms, that's not physically possible unless you mean range of motion, in which case no, it will actually increase it by increasing your flexibility.

fast twitch muscles do one thing good and thats going balls to the wall.
slow twitch muscles are good at a few things and most specifically the only muscle that works with fine motor skills...like punching and blocking....tensing and relaxing...
if your fast twitch to slow twitch muscle ratio is so great that the fast twitch muscles over power the slow twitch they almost end up fighting each other with the fast twitch going balls to the wall while the slow twitch are working on proper timing of relaxing and tightening of muscles.
if your fast twitch muscles are fireing all out while your slow twitch are trying to relaxe you get a very tense punch.
so like if you spend to much time lifting heavy weights and not punching your fast twitch muscles are going to over power your slow twitch muscles.
weights dont make you slow. weights can be used in all manner of ways and all shapes and sizes just your fist no glove or anything is a weight, your body is a weight, your wraps are weights as are your gloves.
heavys weights are a diffrent matter. heavy weights dont necessiaraly make you slow if used in moderation with boxing training. though heavy weights do greatly increase the strenght and ratio of fast twitch mass to slow twitch mass.

i myself fall into the weight lifter/boxer category. if your not actively competing it can be hard to completely stop lifting..dont know if this is your situation. i recently started lifting a lot more with those resistance bands. sounds ridiculous until you try them. if you get a good quality set the resistance is very strong. i saw a video by this guy dr. steffan(i think) on musclefitnessraw.com....it builds acceleration and strength. i tried it out and like it...could be an option for you
