I want to learn the OLD ways damn it!

I've been training in a gym for about five months now, and I'm getting frustrated. It's not that I have a lack of faith in my ability to be what my gym wants, but that I have a lack of faith in what my gym wants ability to make me the type of fighter I've dreamed of being.

Obviously I like Rocco, but it's a little more then trying to mimic Rocky Marciano. I want to be fisticuffs tough. Classically bad ass. I see Marciano as the last of those guys, and that's why I'm such a big fan. He put on display for the world that real ragged strong man attitude in such a big way that he did indeed inspire me. He's not from the bare knuckle era, but he acts like he is... at least in the ring. That's what I want for me. I don't care if it won't work in today's boxing world. I want to know that it's skill that's beating me not power, or endurance, or a better chin. If I know I'm hitting hard as ****, moving forward, and ain't nothing hurting me then I'm one happy ****er. Nothing is where I want it and my gym in happy with my progress. I need some ye old advise, and someone who's never satisfied with were I'm at. If any of you are willing to tell me what to do I'd be willing to tell you how well it's working at least.

as a fellow fan of the blockbuster, belive me when i say that marciano is a remanant of a time long forgotten. the sport of boxing is changing, heavyweights are becoming more like light weights and vice versa. the sports being slowly turned on its head. also to be like marciano you have to be impossibly strong, disciplined, dedacated and tollerant to pain. do you think you have all of those? ether way, you'll find out if its in you when you step into the ring.

When I was amatuer I was trained as a classic boxer, my trainer always had me watching tapes of Ray Robinson and it was the jab and movement that was focused on. I did well, won a couple of state titles and such.

When I turned pro my trainer made me into a little pitbull, always pressing forward and he got me into phenominal shape. Always pressing forward is a tough thing to do. Some guys will be faster and some will be stronger. Believe me when I say that you will eat alot of shots while learning this style of fighting. If you're tough enough and dedicated enough you will see the light and then bask in it while you take their hearts.

Honestly, I can't train somebody on the internet but here are a few musts if you want to roll this way. Head movement, always have that thing in different places at different times. Do not get a pattern set out, it has to be random or the guys will pick up on it and pick you to pieces. Don't forget to feint to draw their shots out. Always coming in is an awsome power but it is predictable, so dson't forget the feints. If you can learn to catch and roll with shots you will be happy that did. You can roll in on somebody with out losing a step while countering and pushing them back. Oh yeah, you had better be in great shape to fight like this.

It's a tough way to roll but not impossible. Good luck....Rockin'

reading that the first thing i thought to myself was 'what a moron', the second thing was 'hes exactly like me when i started'. lol

when i first started i wanted to be tommy hearns so bad i used to wish someone would break mu nose just so id look like him lol, until i caught a good one on the beek that is lol. problem is i wasnt tommy hearns, even though i am freakishly tall for my weight im still not him and even tommy hearns didnt fight the way he did in his prime after just 5 months of training.

trust your coaches, they will show u how to be the best possible with your personal strengths and flaws. try to fight like marciano just cuz he happens to be your favorite fighter and u might wake up looking at the lights cuz it turns out u dont have his chin. or perhaps u wont be powerful enough to find success with that style while hitting and moving might be perfectly suited for u and u might become a great fighter that way.

to say u want to be like the old bareknuckle fighters is just silly, so is that crap about its not a big deal to lose due to skill. boxing aint like that, this aint 1895 and a loss is a loss.

if u want to be a good fighter, listen to your coaches. if u wanna feel cool by pretending your rocky marciano we will see how cool u feel when u get put to sleep (im not saying its sure to happen but its far from unlikely).

im not saying this to be mean, i just dont get the point in working hard, giving up a big part of your life and take countless beating while not even giving yourself a fair shot at being a decent fighter. ppl wont think "wow what a bad ass" they will think "lol that guy cant make a punch miss to save his life" and "daaaaaamn, he got ktfo!"

You sound pretty ignorant to be honest. Just listen to your coach.

Stop trying to emulate another fighter. It rarely if ever works.

It's like Tom Brady trying to emulate Michael Vick. He'd get killed.

Do what gives you the best chance to win and do well.

I think it's better If you just try to learn the new technology of sports science. Old school fighters trained hard, their bodies were put into tremendous pain. Look both the Klitsckos have PHD'S in Physical Education and we know the Russians have the best Physical programs in the world and honestly when it comes to certain muscles, less is more.

That is why I like Ariza I am intrigued with his program I would like to know how I can contact him.

I also love the rock but you have to remember he was fights 15 rounds. You will be starting out at 3 two minute rounds. You need to develop a style that works in that situation. You can still be a mean dude but you need to understand that you say you don't care about those things but when you are not winning because you are not using proper tactics for the situation you may feel differently. I defaulter understand where you are coming from but learn good fundamentals and develop your style as you come along.

I apperciate the responses! Even the under-handed criticisms. Some of you missed my point a little. Maybe instead of saying " a little more" I should have said " I don't want to just " I really don't want people to say "That guy fights like Marciano" What I want is "that guy's as tough as 1885". I just ment for Marciano to be an example of someone from a time who faught, not in physical movment but heart, like he was from the past. Just bull-headed, and mean, and tougher then anyone else around. Nextly I never meant to give the impression that i'm not going to listen to my professional trainer. I just wanted some advice from people who arn't in that gym. I definately want to take full advantage of my natural abilities, but I want that ye old strong with it. Thanks a bunch you guys. I'm going to follow up on the Dempsey books, and really apreciate the first hand experience Rockin'. I really didn't expect anyone to respond to me, I'm really glad y'all did. respect and love to you.
