    Dropping a weight class

Hi, i was wondering how many of you have dropped down a weigh class, and for what reasons? Also if you havnt what reasons you would recomend someone too drop down a weight class or any tips you have.

I myself am thinking about dropping down from 140 to 132 (next class down). Ive been boxing in am competions for a cupple of years now at 140 and making the weight every time with some ease. I usually sit around 145. Im real displined with what i eat and train 6 days a week dubble sessions. But i can be slack some times with my diet and cheat. I was thinking if i got a bit more disiplin with my diet as the fight gets closer i could probally make 132 .

Im guna do a trial run over christmas to see if i can make 132 and still feel strong. Im fairly big for 140 as it is being broad and 5.8 with pretty long reach . I have a low body fat at 140 and get ripped out, but not super low like u see in most top performers. I think at 132 could be a good weight for me, but i guess ill have to wait and see.

I've done everything from 167.5lbs (weigh in right before first match) and 129lbs (weigh in preceding night). The best advice I can give is to educate yourself on weight cutting, or if you want to learn from someone who should already know, find a wrestler and befriend them.

My first (only) fight was at 178, I was about 11-12% bodyfat, 6'0, 175lb (after 2 weeks of really poorly planned water restriction/cutting).

Typically I can take punches from guys that are 190-220 without any problems, and I can often hurt them as well. But the guy I fought was extremely short, and he hit freaking hard. Every single thing he hit me with hurt, and he rocked me good about 4 times. It may have been the water, but still, I didn't like it and it threw off my gameplan a lot, since I suddenly had to respect his power.

I'm currently dropping to 160ish. I feel better at that weight (I'd be about 6% bodyfat), I'm quicker, and punches from guys that size just don't effect me that much. Also, I have a huge reach advantage at that weight, I can run harder (thus enabling me to have a higher workrate), and my power is ridiculous for a guy that size.

So yeah, for me, the decision was based on A.) I have the weight to lose and B.) It'll only make me a better fighter.
