    southpaw looking for advice

alright so like an hour ago i sparred some slick orthodox guy with like 20 amateur fights. im a southpaw and he pretty much handled me. one thing that bothered me was that whenever i threw a jab he immediately returned a left looping hand that like always landed. anybody know what to do? most guys in here are orthodox so what bothers you guys when you spar a southpaw?

also i feel very vulnerable whenever i jab more experienced guys. my liver is sort of wide open and so is my face, ready to get countered and picked apart because i dont know what to do. how do i avoid that? i cant just stop throwing jabs

should i focus more on counterpunching?

Southpaw too, just feint more when guys try landing those looping left hooks I just feint, "hold the phone, put your right ear muff on" and counter with an uppercut followed by my own right hook, and right back to my jabs, I prefer using the uppercut because orthodox fighters are used to seeing the straight left a lot more, either that or feint and weave under the hook and same deal, left uppercut followed by right hook, and right back on my jabs. Reason I continue to use jabs after the counters are so he continues to fall fr the feints. I do other things too but those are off the top of my head.

work with your left straight and with your right hook. don't be afraid to step in with left straight and then follow up with a right hook of course, or the other way around.

try to keep in mind that you're closer to each other, since your jab hands are towards each other. that's why u use ur left straight more, but if he jabs, **** on his body too with a right hook.

because your jab sides are closer, your left straight goes to the inside much easier, jabbing to the inside is harder, takes more effort. and the left hook is hard to connect too, cuz ur opponent just has to take half a step back.

so remember the position from the top view is not \\ but it's /\. that point where you guys are closer towards each other is what brings ur own vulnerability but also your strength. minimize your vulnerability and increase ur strength. step inward, towards his back foot and then u can jab him better too, hook him better.

if u wanna go away from him, turn away to his left hand, and counter him still with your left straight. hope it all makes sense bro, good luck.

i usually dont try too many uppercuts or hooks but i need to add that to my arsenal now especially since im more of an inside fighter (well i should be)

the average guys dont really know about circling when they spar a southpaw, so it was pretty easy because they didnt do anything about it. the other guy however circled so far that his lead foot was always on the outside which kinda messed up my gameplan

thanks man its good to get some advice when youre stuck i guess and dont know what to do, now i can look forward to my next session. trainers only have so much time to coach guys up when the gym is packed
