    Tips on snapping your punches?

Whenever I am on the heavybag, I feel like i'm being too tight and when I punch the bag I feel like i'm mushing the bag, and it doesn't feel smooth it feels kinda sluggish. I try to loosen up my shoulders but still the bag moves all over the place, and my trainer says that it should move in place like it's having a seizure. I'm not loading up too much on my punches, but as I release the punch it's tight and tense instead of quick and smooth. I'm 5'10 and I weigh 150 and I use Everlast 14 oz gloves.

    Any tips or pointers?

Relax both the arm and fist until the moment before impact. Keeping them both tight, as well as your shoulders, will reduce both speed and snap.

im an ex boxer and the first thing u wanna do dude is make sure u are punching correctly, u have to turn over the punch, u should practice in slow motion, get the technique down correctly before doing it on the heavybag. Technique is the most important thing in boxing. U wanna get it right before doing 1000 of reps on the heavybag or u might create bad habits for urself that are very hard to get rid off.

Here's something interesting, Try using a wall as a bag snapping as much as possible to avoid damage (both ways ) Wear wraps, 16's ec't.

^wouldn't this just encourage a fighter to pull his punches rather than snap them? Or um, break your fkn hand?

Think of the dynamics of when you snap a towel. Loose and relaxed, flexing and snapping at the end of towel, then pulling back the towel as fast if not faster then when you sent it out.

Staying loose and relaxed increases your speed. When you make contact think of popping into the target/bag/opponent. Then instantly relax and ring your fist back to the on guard position.

If you are trying to drive through the target (in which there are times to do this) by maintaining contact with the bag, then your fist/arm/body will re-absorb the energy from the punch. By having your fist pop in and out, the energy is absorbed by the target.

Also, are you turning your hips into the punch as well as your shoulders? The waist down is where the power in a punch actually comes from.
