slipping a straight right hand and countering with a left

i was just wondering if you guys wouldn't mind helping me out on this

assuming i'm an orthodox fighter fighting another orthodox what would be the best way to slip a straight right hand so i can counter with a left hook

do you lean over to your right so it goes over your left shoulder

or do you lean to the left so it goes over the right shoulder

it seems as though the second option would set you up for a hook better but it seems risky going to the left as you could quite easily get hit on the way over

someone help me out plz it would be much appreciated

i think you better practice a drill like this:

then slipping the punch will comes naturally when you get used to this move.

it depends on your speed and what kind of opening you see,you dont want to make any type of decision until yo uare actually in the position,as this will give you a first hand account of the way the right is coming at you,you may have to step to your left and throw a double left hook,or you may want to veer back step to the right and throw a right cross

slip to your left, try to tuck that chin into your right shoulder as soon as possible with the inside of your glove dang near covering your temple as you come back with your left hook. the moment of greatest opportunity is also the moment of greatest danger. being loose with your guard as you come back with your hook could get you knocked out cold, no matter the glove size or whether your opponent has "one-punch" power or not.

on the other hand, if you catch him as he begins to hook, the rotational speeds of your bodies going in opposite directions will add more power to your own hook while your guard catches his (roy jones jr.- montell griffin II).

if you're considering slipping it over your left shoulder (inside), which i would not recommend due to bad practice, you would want to throw your hook almost at the exact same time as his right hand and come back with a right hook. the hook would have to loop, which would take off power. (mayweather - de la hoya: de la hoya throws a jab and mayweather loops a right hand while slipping it to the inside).

timothy bradley has thrown some pretty good left hand counters, iirc, you should glance at some of his highlights.

slipping to either side with eyes on opponent will determine the best scenario for a right hand coming response,if you see something unusual in the coming right just take a step back and gather your senses, remember aa inward bound right usually is followed with a hook,so be prepared for all scenarios this is why when you are actually in view of the incoming right you have a better sense of what your move will be,this is called a counter reaction

Absolutely wrong. There are several instances where slipping to the inside is desirable.
