Is lots of repititions with LIGHT weights bad?

    Is lots of repititions with LIGHT weights bad?

    I've been doing boxing for 6 months and have been trying to build up my shoulders.
    I've been using the speedball at the club but have been doing light weights at home.
    I read somewhere that weights were bad for boxing as it decreases speed 'cause you are carrying more weight, does the same rule apply for many reps of light weights?

    High reps and low weight is used by bodybuilders to gain definition.

    You want to lift heavy and do low to mid reps.

    Anybody who says otherwise doesn't know their ****.

      Bolded is wrong. Cardio and diet are used in bodybuilding to gain definition. High reps and low weight just wont do anything for you besides maybe building up lactic acid.

        Nah man he's right.

        One of my buddies that's a bodybuilder told me that if you want to gain definition you do high reps low weights w/cardio.

          high weight - low reps (6-8) = strength
          medium weight - medium reps (15) = definition
          low weight - high reps (20+) = muscle endurance

          do around 15 reps and you will be fine

            Well as some one said all its going to is build up lactate acid.

            thus you can be sure that its going to help increase your lactacid acid threshold in the muscle. it also promotes more efficient atp re-synthesis which is like the lubricant for the muscles, i think. if you do them really fast with really light weights it will also help build speed and if you do them at a normal pace with slightly heavier weights it will help build endurance.

            though i would also reccomend a few 1 rep max wieght lifts jus to help with how many fibers are actually being used when your using the muscle though the really light at high speeds also helps with that in the stopping and changing direction at the ends of the lift.

              Well, light weight for high reps aint bad.The main thing is you trying to work out for speed or endurance? To me I would used it as both! I would go 10 reps for speed 20 or more for endurance.

                  well if your using the same weight for speed and enndurance and just chaning how many reps your really not going to be doing much for speed because even at the fastest you move the weight your not going to be moving it any faster then if you were for endurance.

                  you should do lighter weights at faster speeds at the same or even more reps then you would for endurance. but keep the rest time between reps the same or even alittle more for speed then you do for endurance.
