I think technique is everything, Tommy Hearns only stopped six opponents in the amateurs and only really became a puncher after he joined up with Steward I've heard. Practise your power punches slowly, focusing purely on technique. Make sure your foot, hip, and shoulder are rotated into every shot and eventually the separate body parts you use when punching should be synchronised to perform one smooth movement. Make sure you punch THROUGH everything you hit, not at it. This includes bags, pads shadowboxing, everything, this causes to force to spread through the target. Look at 0.05 in this video,

Heavybags are a huge help as well (as long you punch through them lol:] ), your muscles get used to hitting something heavy and with resistance behind so I'm sure you can guess what would happen if you landed a punch on someones head.

And lastly, stay relaxed at all times, never tense yourself up ever. Not only does it slow you down, which hinders power generation, it burns up energy as well. Make sure you always warm up properly, your Muscles are like clay, when they're cold they're stiff and hard, but if Blood is pumped into them and they warm up, this causes them to dilate and they become much more looser. Exhale thourgh the mouth on every punch as well.

Hope this has been useful! =]

            any advise would be aprecated.

You can create the illusion of "explosive power" by doing any number of exercises and eating the latest fad in supplements. However, when you get in the ring with somebody like Rocky Marciano who really does have "explosive power" you will see the difference. The power you have is all you are going to get. Stick to improving your boxing skills, because punchers are born but knockout artists are made.

turn your body into your punches

also, try throwing a heavy medicine ball, at least 25 lbs, against a wall and catching it
this is a training methid that i have seen vitali klitschko do. i'm sure he has done it for a reason.

explosive power is not really genetic. it is more about being able to seamlessly blend many factors together for one movement. like, staying very relaxed until the last possible moment. even then, relaxing will allow more of a follow throw. if you ask many fighters who have ko'd people, the best ko's they have felt like they weren't even trying to hit hard. there is something to that.

explosive power is an extremely quick change from one state to another state. the rapid change is what makes it explosive.

and like jack dempsey says, it's not genetic. just needs to be trained.

lets not forget, part of explosiveness comes from the speed/velocity of the thrown punch. speed is innate and can rarely be acquired.
