    Boxing gyms in Rockville, MD?

I am 25 and want to learn how to box. Minimal prior experience striking, mainly in Muay Thai.

Are there any gyms in the Rockville, MD area where I could do this?

Also, are there any books/dvds you would recommend for someone in my situation?

    Thanks!

Check out for a listing in your area.

There are tons of good beginner DVD's to get started on boxing in general and there's also ones that focus on each individual drill or technique.

Yeah my only problem with that site is that so many of the gyms seem to have an age limit/cap at 18.

The one gym in Rockville I see on the list is "Books and Boxing," and the posting says it is for ages 8-18.

I really don't want to start buying books/dvds until I actually have a coach...I really want them as a supplement, not as my main course.

Go to Books and Boxing. The 18 year old limit is bull**** as I go to that gym. We just recently got the trainer from Sugar Ray Leonard gym.

          Check it out.

            Awesome, thanks.

I don't know if the Books and Boxing site was updated or I missed it before, but it says Adult classes run from 7-10pm Monday-Thursday.

Starting out, do I need to call/schedule an appointment, or could I just show up to one of those classes?

            Thanks again!

Just show up. In fact, you could probably get a couple free sessions to see if you like it or not before committing to paying the $75 monthly fee.

Sounds good. I'll try to make it tomorrow or Thursday night.

So it's $75 a month for 4 classes a week? Do you pay month to month, or is it a contact?

Its $75 a month, and its open usually 6 days a week (only day off being Sunday). You can come in for as long as you want on any days its open for the $75.

You usually pay month to month.

                    Cool man, thanks.

What is the training situation like, are there group classes, or is it one-on-one training?

Is the $75 a month the only possibility, or are there other plans for people that will be making it in less?
