    How do you increase the spring in your legs.

    I used to be 165 and hit like a 100lb kid. After I trained my knees. I used weighted squats and did that machine where you kick and the weights go up my legs have been hard and solid. I can dig into my punches and now I hit so hard that I went down to 140 and 2 times I almost knocked out people that were heavier than me in sparring and around the same experience. They say I hit harder than most of the people they fought at their weights. I got a ****ing tko during my first fight too. I fought mma fighters once and they don't use the boxing stance and dig in and difference in power was so large even though the guy was heavier than me by alot. I know that the legs are what drives punches now

    I want to know what do you guys use for that super explosive springinees power in your legs to reach full potential. Are ankle weights good? I wanna get one of those super fast spring loaded punches like roy jones.

    legs are a big part of it but so is everything else. close to perfect form and technique. your core is a huge part of it. depending on the punches too. for devastating body hooks/uppercuts/45s gotta have strong legs/lats/core. that left 45 to the body is my favorite punch. since you got the leg power just work your form/technique so you can give yourself the best angles for the most power, very strong core, if your not doing so add pullup/chinups, and even good old fashion sledge hammer workouts. in my honest opinion you gotta train all your muscles because all your muscles are firing just some harder then others but the indirect muscles help. goodluck

            sprints, explosive squats, explosions, also train your calve muscles, that will add even more spring in your punches

            dude, your 165 and you shouldn't be proud of knocking out welterweights...

              This is absolutely correct; you can have the strongest, springiest legs in the world but if you don't have equivalent power throughout your body it's useless.

              There's a concept called "effective mass" which refers to the ability of a person to use a given percentage of their mass to perform a movement. The more you can coordinate all the components of your body to lock together during the final pulse of a punch, the more of your weight you can put behind that punch and the more powerful it's going to be.

              So, if your legs are strong, but you don't have the core to transfer all the energy your legs are providing you, or if the two aren't operating in sync, your punch isn't going to be very powerful.

              The MMA fighter Shane Carwin is a great example of how utilizing maximum effective mass can produce devastating effects, this is a guy who ends fights within the first 2 minutes because he can put all 250 pounds or so of his body weight behind his punch, and nobody's going to last very long with that happening to them.

              So keep training your whole body and practicing good form, the better you get at it, the more powerful your punch is going to get.

                I'm 140 and almost knocking people out.

                And jumprope and running are a little obvious if you box.
