    Head movement ?

Sorry if there is a post like this, i'm new to this whole thing
Ok, my trainer has said i have natural ability and i have potential blah blah; my speed is good and my power is good.
Heres the problem, I know im supposed to move my feet and move my head, but as soon as i get in the ring with someone, its like i just cant do it or something, i move yes, but not as well as normal, and i dont slip or duck any shots really.
I'd really love to be like Tyson, so evasive in his movements yet so powerful, i know thats obviously an impossible thing to ask for. . . .
But i was wondering; is there anything anyone can recommend for maybe teaching yourself to evade the shots (without sparring) (so things you could do at home or in a normal gym etc.), and then a way to increase the speed in which you can actually dodge/slip a punch?
Any advice will be muchly appreciated
    Thanks.

how long have you been sparring. wasnt a post too long ago a guy had been training for atleast a year or longer but only sparred maybe 3-4 times in his training career. thats the problem. you have to spar atleast 1+ times a week in order to feel more natural in the ring and do what you trained to do. i have great slitting and bobbing and my combination's are quick and on point, i move in and out and my counters are decent but i don't spar a lot and when that full moon is out and i spar i don't move even half as good as i train. its your bodies natural instinct to not feel comfortable when the guy across from you wants to take your head off. the more you spar the more you get used to it and your training will start to show through. its pretty much just guts heh. it also depends on what your situation is and what your going through but i hope that helped. good luck. oh and side note, that guy that i first was talking about is sparring like a champ now. he doesnt freeze up anymore and can let his hands go and move how he chooses to do so.

Takes time. I just started adding head movement in sparring (without having to think or be reminded about it) about a month ago and I've had 7 fights.

As for drills you can do...

Set up a rope/string/handwrap at shoulder height. Ideally do this in the ring with two ropes stretching across from corner to corner making an X in the middle, but if you can't do that just set up one rope anywhere you can.

Then just practice moving forward and backwards along the rope while ducking your head underneath. As you get more comfortable just moving and ducking under, add in some punches. Throw a 1-2 as you go forward, as you roll under throw a hook, and when you come up throw an uppercut. Mix it up foward and backwards. If you are doing the X in the ring, start in one corner and go farward rolling and punching until you get to the middle, and then pivot off to an angle and go backwards under another rope until you get back to a corner.

Practice that for a couple rounds per night. It's something you can do in the gym, or even just tie a string up in your bedroom/basement/garage.

There's also a slip or maize bag, but I personally don't like using that so I'll let someone else explain.

Ok, another thing, is slipping just moving your body from the waist upwards like leaning, or do you keep your back straight and just bend your legs ?

usually when someone says slip like for instance slip the jab from orthodox vs orthodox you just bend your body sidways from left to right.

don't plan head movement or think about it when you're fighting. transfer your weight slightly from side to side, the more you spar the more you will be able to pick up on certain movements or even twitches from your oponent that will give away what he's about to hit you with, when you feel it coming continue your weight transfer into a more drastic slip, follow your head with your body and keep your feet under you.

                see and react. don't think.
