join my gym,
the wellington abc, (the welly)
run my old guy called jon and nother guy called frenkie, their is other trainers who help out aswell,
its not your state of the art , top class gym or anyting like that, put a really good gym,
we got loads off amature fighters, some going in the abs , one lad in quater final now,
good atosphere,
train 6-7juniors
7-8 seniors,
not far from tesside uni,
its a really old school gym, old equipptment, old trainer, ect...yet we produce some of the best amatures in the country,
we do bag work, sparring, skipping, fitness ect..ect...
i dont know what your old gym was like, but,
ours can take a bit of getting used to if your not used to it lol, bit old and run down, yet probably the best boxing club in middlesbrough,
loads come, well worth coming....good gym, good atosphere, hard work....
how old are you?
when you thinking of coming to teeside?
what other boxing expiricence do you have?
if you wanna know more about it, and like where it is and all that then, post back on this thread,
it can be quite difficult to find for the first time,

Give it all up for boxing or not?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right, im not gonna lie to myself any longer. Im obsessed with boxing. Its becoming the main thing in my life, i dont drink even socially any more for fear for my fitness, i sometimes miss social events just to go to the boxing gym, i arrive at the gym half hour early just because i love the gym, i stay late every session, everything i eat, do is based around boxing. I dont think its got to the point where its ******ly obsessive, cos i still see friends and do social activities, only with close friends though!
Now heres my dilema, in september, if i get the grades i should be going to university in northampton, which is 3 hours away from my boxing gym. September is also when the season starts when i should be having my first fight. Im sure you can start to see the dilemma im put in here! My mum really wants me to go to university, and to be honest, before i started boxing i wanted to too. But boxing has put a different perspective on things, im wondering whether to just have a year gap, get a job and concentrate hard on training and go to uni next year, go to uni and forget about it (shudder), or just drop uni all together. Some advice would be great! Sorry for the long post
i remember now it was you who posted that, and i was really trying to help you,
did you change you mind and decide to come to teeside uni,
lol it would have been alot easier is we would of new that in the first place ,lol

haha tricky sorry i didnt reply been out! Im looking to study criminology in september at teesside, ill be 18. My boxing experiance is ive been training 3-4 times a week for around 2 and a half months now, but my coach says ill be ready for my first fight in september when the season starts! Unfortunately there isnt many match ups for me due to my size, so will take a bit of shopping around to find a opponent (im 6 ft 6/7 and 220lbs).
Yeah all the advice in that thread really helped me, and i made the ultimate decision to go to university, but change it to one where there is some good quality gyms around so i can keep my training up, my sister lives in borough too. My gym at the moment is pretty old school too, older guy who helps with the decent boxers and i think runs it, nice guy is the main man i think, got another older guy who does some technique and padwork, also took me for my first round of sparring, really knows his stuff, around 3-4 really good coaches who push you to your limits and the professionals help you out a bit too. Just 1 massive room with like 20 bags, 2 rings, mirrors, weights, track round the gym etc, changing rooms.
I dont care about the size of the gym or the looks etc, if its got good coaches, a good atmosphere where i can learn then its perfect for me! Ill check in the morning to see if youve replied, thanks mate.

yeah,
were kinda on built on top of a pub, so you have to go down an alley way and up some stairs to get in,
should be pretty like yours its an old schol gym,
the trainers called john hes about 60 somthing, hes old and knows his stuff, hes one of them guys who tells the same joke over and over again, you somtimes think hes a bit daft but thats just because of old age,
he can be sumtimes strage, like if sumone comes for the first time and asks to join, he will ask questions like 'do ya wanna box' 'or do ya just wanna train'
then he might say come back thext friday or summit, and then half the people dont come back coz he scared em off,
hes olny just learnt my name lol,
theres another trainer , who dose most of the training hes yonger and you learn more, theres other trainers who help out an stuff aswell, as its a well known gym people just pop in sumtimes and help out,
what we usally dois,
first have a warm up where we will do shadow boxing, few situps few press ups, more shadow boxing, stretches and stuff like that, we then all pay our subs, which is ? for me and like ?.50 or smuit for the people like you,
we then gather down in a corner and he say 'gear on' to you if your sparring, and you wud then go get a headgaurd and mouthgard and gloves, or he wud put you on the baord, which is like bags, shadow box, bags, skips, lines, and repeat and we do timed rounds on them, sumtimes however we all do technique in another room where we practice ducking and sliping shots and blocking and body sparring and stuff like that, somtime syou go on the pads with the trainer, somtimes we do a 'tun up' wich is like a list of exercies that you have to do 10 off each as quick as you can, which i hard, we also have weights and stuff like that but they barle yget used, we got sum medicne balls ect.... weve got loads of bags around the rig each one diffret type,
when sparring , a group of us line up with the gear on, and the trainer picks to people to spar in the ring he wud then send on out and bring another in, ect.... session usally finshes at 8 but it carrys on a bit after that, sum people do sit,ups and push ups in the ring, or bag work or skipping,
once the trainer thinks your good enough he will weigh you in, and write your name and weight ona board, and you wud get weighed in regullary after that,
it can feel at first as if your being abit unnoticed and no0t thought about, but after while if you show your your ok ect you will be allowed to spar, and the trainers will get more involved in you, all triners used to be pro boxers, they know what thier doing, our main trainer got asked to train the olympic team but tturnerd them down this year,
we supply gloves, and headgear ect..but their not the best so if you habe bring uyour own. i bring my own gloves boots ect..just use the gyms head gaurds,
