    Me Sparring *vid*

Getting the balls to post a few vids these days :-)

I'm the guy in red. Currently weighing 241 lbs (109kg) and 6'3". Still haven't had my first bout as yet but I may have one next week if the other club accepts the invitation. My sparring partner in the vid is also a non-bouter. I've been training for just under a year now, still obviously very raw but I've improved a lot over the last 6 months. Not looking to turn pro as I'm already 29. I just wanna get loads of fights over the next 5 years, compete in the ABA's and eventually help out with coaching at the club.

you looked a bit slow in my opinion and be careful with that low left hand.
good luck and carry on training

nice one. thats fair enough. keep practicing and fitness is key. your timing looks good when you get you range. obviously you cant expect miracles after training for a year.

If theres anything obvious I can spot its work on moving your hands a little faster and dont forget to get your hands back in a guarding position quick time.

Apart from that im not gonna try critisize you with startin at this age and after just a year. Good work!!

You move well, just need to throw more punches per round and close the range more to stop punches falling short.....nice looking jab!

i thought it was very good a good controlled sparring session i had my first sparring two nights ago and he was a mad man no jab just ko blows one after another all i could do was keep hands up very high as he was aiming just at the head and try to counter

you have a very nice jab like mine. id say commit more on those jabs, throw them and step in with them to set up more punches, instead of throwing them and stepping away so much. id also watch that low left hand. goodluck

Kudos for the video, here's my advice...i'll tell you why you ate that cross early on, right before your coach said 'Hands up!'...

when I started, I held my left the same way, it's called a hitman style jab position named after hearns, it generates more power and comes from a better angle...

but starting out as an amateur you need to have both hands up. you are going to eat many a right cross unless you listen and apply this knowledge.

if you would just make a small adjustment, tuck in that left elbow and bring that left glove up to where the top of it is level with your hairline, learn to fire the jab and rotate your left fist clockwise, making a grasp at the end of the punch with all your strength and exhaling harshly.practice that, and your entire style will benefit from it. oh, and

Take my advice, don't lead with your right hand. It isn't fast enough. if you dont want to throw the cross after the jab, which i recommend, mix in the cross after or before a left hook to the body or head, those two punches complement each other like butter 'n' grits, homeslice.

I didn't really see any hooks, you ain't a small guy, I was expecting some power. I didn't see any clinching either, (clinching should be practiced along with punching out of a clinch I don't care who tells you otherwise) then again it was only one round.

only a year of training!! you got some descent footwork. I would say you use your jab more often. and try not to reach with your right hand when catching jabs. let the jab come to you then catch it. if keep reaching with your right hands to catch jabs some one can feint a jab then come with a left hook instead. but good work

always enjoy watching the sparring. you look to be a guy with some reasonable potential! massive frame..

hard to say too much as you were a bit conservative.. try putting a few punches together..

2 things on that guy you were sparring.. he isnt stable when he throws his jab.. therefore ripe for counters..

and also when he tries that bum rush why not meet him with an uppercut?

                    cool vid anyhow!
