    Hand position inside boxing gloves?

It seems that whenever i try to put any kind of power in a straight shot (or really any shot where my palm faces down), I get a sharp pain in my hands.

Its been building up since i started training in september and its been getting worse to the point where i have a lingering pain in my right wrist that comes and goes when it pleases.

I dont know about any of you guys, but when i punch with any type of glove on i seem to connect with the knuckles in the middle of the fingers (if you get what i mean?).

I dont know if my hands are just too big or what but I have to bend my wrist down at an angle in order to connect with my knuckles (instead of the top of my fingers) because my hands dont seem to be able to go deep enough inside the gloves.

Its really getting on my nervers because I cant use my full power on the bags or the pads without hurting my hands and its hampering my training.

Is this a common thing among gloves or is it just me?

Contact is made with the knuckle at the base of the fingers. ONLY. You need to have your hands closed, tight, when you make contact. Start the punch with your hands open, and clench your fist right before you make contact. If you're hitting with the middle of your finger, your hands may be open inside your gloves. You will break your hand, even inside your gloves, if you are striking with your hands open.

It takes strong hands to close a pair of boxing gloves tightly, and I have heard that it is tiring for many people to crank them shut with each punch. I firmly believe that grip strength is an important component of punching ability.

ive tried putting my hands in all my gloves (i have 3 pairs) and even when i clench my hands the hardest i can, the part that sticks out the most at the front of the glove (which makes contact first when i throw a straight shot) is where the middle nuckles bend at the bottom of the striking surface. My nuckles are higher up in the glove so i need to bend my wrist down slightly in order for the striking surface to be flat. I hope you understand what im saying :S

Look at this slash / <---------- , if you were to look at your right glove from the side that is how the striking part of my fist looks, even when clenched to the max i cant get it to be a straight line from top to bottom. The top of the slash is where my base nuckles are and the bottom of it is where my middle nuckles are. What im saying is, maybe if i could get my hands deeper inside the gloves then the top nuckle could get further down so it would look like a straight line going down rather than this / <------- because in order to get it straight i need to bend my wrist down which makes me punch at a weird angle and **** my hands up.

I really hope u understand where im coming from

Ask your coach. I can't visualize it well enough to instruct you on this, and hand pain is a sign that you're doing something wrong. Always.

The cross section diagram of the hand in the glove shows a more accurate picture of what my hand looks like while its in the glove. Difference is my wrist isnt turned upwards like it is in that pic, it looks like that with my wrist straight.

If you're holding your hand correctly, then you're punching wrong. Seriously, you've got to ask your coach. I don't mean to be a hardass, but hand pain and headaches are the two things you should not **** around with. Questions about either, go to your trainer and/or a doctor.

hey bud...try getting mexican wraps (longer)

May help with wrist instability. Also start doing knuckle push ups and wrist rolls and raises. When I first started boxing i had weak wrists now I can blast a heavy without worrying about my wrists buckeling or anything one bit..
