The above poster brings a valid point to the disscussion my defense used to be my worst attribute but I constantly worked on it in sparring and sometimes I would spar someone much younger then me and throw no punches only work on my defense and now its almost an automatic action to block and then counter.

Yeah I got my defense down before my offense was down completely. As everyone else,I hate getting hit in the face, and rarely do because Im more of a defense guy.

i remember when I dove into the world of boxing about a year ago, I sparred all out of shape and got beat so bad, but I wanted more. I started conditioning myself and added some of the routines I saw here in the boxingscene boards. Now I'm taking my swimming to further condition myself. Work on your conditioning (stamina) and you will have the confidence to take a punch as will as give one.

Boxers get hit. Swimmers get wet.

Endurance of pain is as important to a boxer as it is to a triathlete. You will learn to shut the pain off, and to differentiate discomfort from injury. This does not come naturally for most of us. The first time I got hit really hard, I threw up and then cried my eyes out.

Now, though, I feel fairly confident that some ******* on the street could knock my teeth out and my pulse wouldn't even change. And he would suddenly have a whole lot of unforeseen problems. This game will change you.

Also, there is no shame in deciding that you are not cut out for this sport. Having someone attempt to beat you unconscious once or twice a week is not everyone's bag.

              The golden boy
              Is that really true.

Do you get use to the pain... say for example you use to get hit in the face a lot by a weak guy...now you fighting a lot stronger fights so if now that weak guy can hit you in the face all day and it doesnt really hurt.

when people use to fight me normally i would not fight back.
However once when i did have a fight the adreline was amazing and i could not feel the punches.
However i would fight back now unless the person was a lot lot stronger then me.

You do get used to it. It never hurts less; you get stronger, that's all. A heavy punch will still hurt. You just learn to not worry about it.

Thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard. First weak or strong if someone hits you in the face its going to hurt depending on where your hit, you just fight through it unless its a knockout punch and your not going to remember that one anyway. Second who gives a **** if the guy is alot stronger than you you always fight back, what are you going to do just let the guy beat the **** out of you and not worry about anything coming back! Its called damage control...you may still get your ass beat but I gaurantee that he's going to think twice about doing that **** again. Lesson number three my Pops always told me you never let anyone run over you cuz if you do everybodys going to think they can and wouldnt that be a pitiful existence.

The pain received while training far exceeds the pain you get when you're getting hit imo.
