    Defensive Drills

Hey guys!! I'm still very new to boxing. I have been doing my roadwork everyday and going to the gym, but would like to know what I could do to work on defensive drills by myself. I want to make sure I learn all aspects of boxing.

    Thanks Guys

I think most people are gunna tell you to find a trainer. If by "going to the gym" means boxing gym then it looks like you're going in the right direction.

I set up a double-ended bag in my basement and it helps me work on defense some.

Well I do and train once a week with my trainer, but can't use his stuff other nights because it's in the basement of his house. I can only go to a regular gym. I saw in another thread to throw a tennis ball against the wall and try to slip.

Hey no problem!! I thought it was a great idea to for people who can't afford all of the equipment.

well to start off, have a friend jab your shoulders. This doesn't really teach proper slipping, as you'll end up kind squaring yourself to the punch- the object is to get that shoulder outta the way. This will help you get used to the idea of punches coming to u, and sometimes landing. I find that's a good stepping stone before real slipping practice/sparring

Take your hand wrap and tie both ends against opposite sides of your hallway so it hangs at around the level of your chest. Then slip back and forth under the rope as you move foreward. You can add any variations of punches to this.

I have seen Tyson do this.
