JCC Sr. is a hall of fame fighter.
Manny is not there yet.
In their primes...I would take JCC Sr. A lot of people are just flaming and talking trash not making any real analysis.
Take a look at the fight with Medrick Taylor. Taylor was a beautiful fighter. Quick as hell on his feet, Combinations, Hand Speed, and He had power. As far as skills go, he was one of the most skilled lighter weights who has ever put on the gloves.
JCC took 3 punches for 1 for a long time in that match. And Taylor couldn't hurt him. You think PacMan could? (The fight actually turned in the 6th or 7th round, just no one really noticed till they saw Taylors face)
JMM pwned Manny, despite the fact that Manny knocked him down 3 times. Whoever said Manny can't fight backing up is right, he also can't fight you if you can keep him at range and outside of your kitchen. He has no jab defense whatsoever.
JCC Sr. shots would have been brutal, and he probably wouldn't have taken as many punches as Medrick Taylor through at him. Manny doesn't have combinations as good as Taylors were.
I'm not knocking Manny in anyway. He's tough. But his boxing skills are not elite. He is fast, strong, has a decent chin, and he has great stamina. He flat out outworks most opponents, wears them down with relentless pressure.
But against a Boxer, with Good Stamina, who can take a punch he has a hard time. Morales showed that in the first fight. Used his Jab, kept Manny back, and busted him up at range. Second fight, Manny worked harder, Morales made the mistake of engaging earlier than he should have, and he paid for it late in the fight.
No doubt Manny is a good fighter, he beat both Morales and Berrera who are arguably two of the best in that division in the last decade.
I give JCC Sr. his props though, over 100 fights is just tough. When you are willing to go fight that much, anything can happen. Just because the good portion of the other fighters may not have been on the same level does not degrade the fact that he was willing to fight that much.
Someone said "We'll see when Manny gets to 100 fights"
That will never happen. Especially when you only fight 3 times a year or less.
