Comments Thread For: Benavidez: Yildirim Fight Is Next; He'll Have Extremely Tough Time With Me

David Benavidez would've preferred to make his mandated title defense against Avni Yildirim on Saturday night. Benavidez couldn't do that because he already had a contract for an optional defense of his WBC super middleweight championship versus Alexis Angulo. Colombia's Angulo agreed to challenge Benavidez on April 18 in Benavidez's hometown of Phoenix after Yildirim reportedly suffered a shoulder injury earlier this year that delayed his title shot.

I like Benavidez and think he's a good kid, but he's slow-footed and all he does is talk about how he wants big fights, but does very little to make those fights happen. After awhile, he starts to sound like Amir Khan.

I think they should do another super 6 type thing with Nelo, Benavidez, Plant, BJS, Smith and a wild card to see who the man is at 168. I still ain't sure who #6 should be though is my only problem.

You a casual. Benavidez is not ducking nobody. He wants the fights but other fighters don’t want to fight him. He too much of a risk.

I agree. Have a Super 6 and let the winner face Canelo, but how would that work out when not all the top guys are with the same promoter? Saunders and Smith are with DAZN.

Get off David's nuts. Benavidez has been running his mouth for more than a year about fighting Plant. If he really wanted that fight, he'd step to Al and have it made. All the empty talk about wanting the big fights is sounding pretty empty and a lot like typical Amir Khan yammering. Not everyone is going to get the Canelo ticket, so might as well stop waiting and fight who's available and willing. Plant has stated multiple times he wants Benavidez.

If you read the article you would see that he is contractually obligated to fight both these guys. He has no other choice. If Yildirim didn't get hurt, he'd be the one getting bodied tmrw and he'd probably be moving on to bigger things. Aside from Plant maybe bc of their personal beef, I don't think any of the other champs want it with Benavidez. Young man is a special talent, two-time world champion and he's still only 23.

"Special talent"??? He looks good vs. opponents with zero mobility or who are shot. I don't think he's developed enough to catch up to guys like Canelo, Plant or even a bloated Saunders. The only champ I'd like his chances against is Smith. I'd steer him away from the others until he develops more. I'd like Jacobs or Uzcategui up next for him. He's just spinning his wheels fighting guys like Angulo, Yidrim and Dirrell.

That seems to be the problem throughout boxing really so I don't have the answer.

Can’t wait for Sweethands to give this guy a boxing lesson he’ll never forget, he’ll look like he got two left feet!

His only hope is for Caleb to get caught with a big shot or get tired!
