You Get to Change 1 Thing About Boxing

    What would it be?

I’d make it one belt per weight class

Now there’s pressure on fighters to fight the best in their division ASAP.

You beat the best guys to earn the respect of being champ

No more 45 minutes of filler in between fights on the big cards.

No special weight stipulations for title fights. Fight at the same weight with exactly the same weigh-ins as are called out by that sanctioning body.

Boxers move through competitive tiers where they can only fight guys in that tier to insure more evenly matched fights.

For a basic example of how it could work:

Tier 1: Basically everyone starts here. Win 5 fights or have a winning record after 10 or more fights & you move up to Tier 2. All 4 round fights.

Tier 2: Winning tournaments or winning 4 of your last 5 fights should move you to Tier 3. If your record goes to a losing record you move back to Tier 1. Wouldn't be opposed to high level amateurs requesting to start at this level also. All 6 round fights.

Tier 3: This would likely be the most active Tier. Winning tournaments or winning 4 of your last 5 fights move you up to Tier 4. Losing 3 of your last 4 fights moves you down to Tier 2. All 8 round fights.

Tier 4: This would be the level where things got serious. This Tier would rank fighters through a "NCAA coaches poll" type ranking system of various pundits & boxing insiders. There would be a top 25 & the highest ranked guy would be bumped to Tier 5 when an opening became available. Lose 3 outta 4 fights & you move back to Tier 3. All 10 round fights.

Tier 5: This would be the only Tier casuals or mainstream boxing fans followed. It'd only have 12 boxers in it. If you lose 2 fights in a row or 2 outta 3 you drop down to Tier 4. All 12 round fights.

I think a system like this would greatly improve the sport at all levels & insure the cream rises to the top whoever they are or aren't affiliated with while entertaining more fans with competitive fights locally to the world stage.

2 things, aside from kicking politics aside, same day weigh ins. Real fighters in their respective weight class again would be great.
Or how about the best fight the best
