Even if a fighter needs 2 or 3 attempts to make weight...

Exactly.
This is what I wrote about 20 minutes ago in another thread to one of my Loma buddies here who asked me to explain (myself) the situation:
"I just saw this when I got home. It really didn't move me for a sec. I don't understand people who think I care about that.
I have a theory about weights. As long as the two fighters agree, I'm okay with a weight difference of 5 to 10 pounds. In the heavyweight division, the differential is even bigger.
I'm neither shocked nor blaming Davis for anything as long as he keeps making the weight and winning. It's up to the other fighter too. Making weight on a second try isn't something so outrageous in boxing, either. It's been happening since the beginning.
Davis will settle down at 135."
Davis made the weight. Loma fans should stop crying. Go study your boxing history.

Nothing unprofessional about it. He was supposed to make weight, and he did. Save your fake bitchy outrage for someone who cares. Boxing is a brutal sport, toughen up.
It's a fight. Get on with it.

I don't see a big deal as far as whether or not the fight should happen. But, I would worry if I'm a fan of the fighter who had to take the extra two hours to lose the weight. That means he's drained or for whatever reason, isn't taking the fight as seriously as he should.
As far as Tank Davis is concerned, the poster above mentioned that he was two hours late to the weigh in and had an extra hour to lose the weight. That's BS because they should've caused a weight penalty and Gamboa should be walking away with an extra six figures.
