Why do people think Fury is a great boxer?

I've watched all Fury's fights and the only two decent fights he was "great" in were two shi..tty fights with one being half-decent for 2-3 rds.

The guy isn't even a defensive juggernaut like Mayweather and Sweetpea. And he's below average on the front foot. He's just a bore that knows how fight on the backfoot with decent upperbody movement for his size. I think the allure with Fury's style has to do with the fact that he's a tall awkward kangaroo, standing 6'9 tall - with decent upperbody movement for his size. Apart from that, he's a more aggressive Hughie Fury with a jab.

Just watch the Wlad fight and the guy only threw 84 punches in 12 rds and he won because the unmotivated Wlad couldn't deal with his awkwardness - not because he was better on the night. And against Wilder, any half-decent boxer would look like Ali against Wilder. Molina, Duhuapas, and Szpilka looked like Ali against Wilder before they got knocked out. Heck, he got outboxed by a NFL player in Washington. Wilder is a predictable one-trick pony and a bum with a big right hand. Once you have decent awareness - you'll see his telegraphed punches from a mile away.

Fury knows his hype is a ruse hence he fought tomato cans throughout his career, apart from being an opportunist twice. I'd like to see Fury against the new Dillian Whyte and AJ. If he can beat both of them - then he'll get my praise.

Because he outclassed Wladimir Klitschko, who was on a Joe Louis/Larry Holmes-esque run and Deontay Wilder, who is a universally recognized top 3 heavyweight.

Fury would beat Joshua and Whyte on the same night, he's a level above both of them.

Ask any non-biased pro who has been in the gym with Fury and they'll say the same, Fury is #1.

Why does he have to fight Dillian Whyte to get praised? Same Dillian Whyte that lost to Fury leftovers old Chisora in the first fight and losing going into the 11th in 2nd fight

Why is Dillian Whyte even in the conversation are the UK fans that desperate smh...

To impress the only person in the world who thinks a guy who went life and death with Chisora, Parker and Rivas is better than Klitschko and Wilder.

For a guy that big he slips punches better than most fighters in lower weights.

He has the hallmarks of most of the very good/great heavyweights of previous era's - good defence, good jab. This gets overlooked because of all the unorthodox stuff he does, with a guy like Fury - his performances are a reflection of his personality in a way, he can blow hot and cold, be inconsistent within the performance, so it's dangerous to judge him on the bad performances.

Manny Steward had an unbelievable eye - he was a master of the sport - go back and watch some of the fights he commented on, he has this uncanny ability to see and predict where the fight is going, he also had an unbelievable ability to judge talent and judge it from a young age.

It is no surprise to me to see Fury at the top of the division, and partly because I piggybacked Steward's eye and he saw it in camp when he was still a young fighter. In a similar case I remember seeing an interview with Manny Steward about Ricky Hatton when he saw him as an amateur, and he said then that Hatton was shadow boxing 15-16 rounds without rest and he could tell from the movement and work ethic then "that kid will be a world champion"

So my point is TS learn to use your own eye and opinion, but also pay attention to the people that know more than you.

Pay attention to pivots in the HW division. Not many can get off the track worth a ****.

Andy Ruiz can not pivot for ****. Anthony Joshua can not pivot for ****. Wladimir Klitschko could not pivot for ****.

There's only two in the division who can pivot well and only one who is a defense first fighter. Tyson Fury may not be great in the big picture but in the vacuum of the present his ass is the greatest defensive HW around. For many, that's enough to call him best.

Usyk will be the third HW with a decent pivot game.

Wlad got whooped because Tyson twisted his ass all night. I should clip that fight and set it to chubby checker. 'Cause that was one long twist. Fury can twist just about anyone who's going at him straight in. He looks for it, hopes for it, and capitalizes off of it.

The only other major skillset Tyson uses is sharp insides you don't expect a big guy in the posture he's in often to be able to do. Rough 'em up a ***** coming into the clinch.

Tyson Fury is damn good and much much better than most HWs.

Let's say it like this. If it was Whyte instead of Wallin would Tyson not still be seen as a guy who is easily going to coast the fight? He could definitely coast against Whyte. Whyte's basically just young Chisora....who Fury licked twice.

If you can’t notice it you’re knowledgeable is dumb . A 6’’9 250 pound guy is not going to move like a 147 pound Whitaker or Mayweather

He's not. He's a 6'9 Paulie Malignaggi. Malignaggi had a better chin though.
