Comments Thread For: Neither Participant Present At Ruiz-Joshua II Announcement Presser

An announced date and location is normally confirmation of a boxing event's status advancing from "planned" to "done deal."

In the case of the anticipated heavyweight title fight rematch between Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua, it will still require word from both parties and an accompanying press conference to convince the masses that those plans are very much in place.

That, unfortunately did not take place on Monday.

What came instead was confirmation from event handlers that the fight will take place on Dec. 7 at a yet-to-be erected venue in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia as previously announced.

"We remember of course, June 1st ar Madison Square Garden well, I won't say we remember too fondly, but what a huge night for the heavyweight division," Eddie Hearn, managing director of Matchroom Sport and Joshua's promoter said during Monday's brief press gathering. "We saw Anthony Joshua, who was long known as THE man in the heavyweight division, be dethroned by a fantastic Andy Ruiz in a great fight that sold out Madison Square Garden. It was a night that really turned the heavyweight division on its head."

Hearn was joined on stage by event partner Omar Khalil, whose Skill Challenge Entertainment company is responsible for securing the location for the heavyweight sequel.

People in America have very little knowledge beyond their narrow minded prejudices and the 7/11 down the street. Most have never ventured out of their neighborhood, Las Vegas is a stretch, England is uncomfortably foreign and the middle east may as well be Mars, a far away mythical planet they couldn't find with a map.

Eddie Hearn is a real threat to the establishment and they know it, and that's probably the only area that all the sanctioning bodies and promoters can agree on.

Where were the principal combatants? They were no shows. This press conference was a farce. This was nothing more than a rare photo-opportunity for Eddie Hearn.

I have to hand it to Eddie he has mastered the art theatrics and showmanship. He has to go back and iron out all of the details before there is even a remote chance of a rematch. It's obvious that Andy wants more pay.

This guy has never seen camera that he didn't like. What a complete douche?
