Comments Thread For: Jarrell Miller: Oquendo Made Smart Move Turning Down $500K

NEW YORK The math might not make sense to some people, but Jarrell Miller understands why Fres Oquendo turned down a $500,000 purse to fight him November 17. Oquendo is 45 and hasn't fought in four years, yet still was offered half-a-million dollars by promoter Eddie Hearn for a fight Miller would've been heavily favored to win. Chicago's Oquendo didn't think three weeks' notice was enough time to properly prepare for that tough of a fight and reportedly wants

No, Oquendo just wanted a drug tests, nothing more to the story.

How the hell was Oquendo even an option in the first place? There isn't a single fighter who's younger, move active and ranked higher for Baby Fat Miller to fight?

They wanted drug testing for the matchup same as Oquendo, BUT Team Miller initially thought Fres was desperate for money and would take the fight under any conditions.

            or so I've heard

Very long story, lots of drug test failures and law suits and we are where we are. He's not an "option" he had a call on that fight that would be up held in a court of law.

Bogdan Dinu. Romanian former youth and amateur standout, looks like a cold war era Bond Villain. Unbeaten in 18(14 early), but nobody of note on the record either - the only name I recognize is Marcelo Luis de Nascimento; a Brazilian journeyman who's been beaten by about 15 recognizable HW names, mostly by KO.

Dinu could be decent but it's hard to tell from his record. At 32 years old, 18 fights in 10 years as a pro with no decent names on the record does not scream of ambition.
