Comments Thread For: Arum Wants Golovkin On ESPN; Open To Golden Boy/Canelo Deal

Now that HBO has announced it is moving away from broadcasting boxing, two of the sport's biggest stars are TV free agents. Promoters for middleweight rivals Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin can begin negotiating new rights deals for at least their respective next fights. Both of their contracts with HBO ended following their middleweight championship rematch September 15 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

HBO getting out of the Boxing Business was bad news for Golden Boy. It put them in a tough spot where they’re gonna have to partner up w/t another promotional outfit if they wanna survive. Canelo alone won’t save GBP he’s strictly PPV fighter nowadays.

We're going to find out a lot more about Oscar and Canelo's relationship as a result of all of this.

That kid has the chance to make $150M - $200M on a deal with Showtime or DAZN.

This is where we find out how smart/dumb Oscar really is.

If they went with ESPN, then Canelo would be losing out on significant guaranteed money.

        This will be interesting

If he's as smart as I think he is, there's no way I go to ESPN. The time is now to get that deal of a lifetime. And this is Oscar's chance to secure a future for GBP. We will see what happens.

Ah forgot about that. Hmm, they might be willing to pay him for the boost in subs?

Either way, we know Showtime will give him the heavy bag lol

Gonna be tough, Showtime’s Espinoza hates Oscar for taking Canelo to HBO and will try to short change him on any offers. The best move for Golden Boy will most likely be DAZN Hearn’s stable in the US is weak, so he might be open to a partnership w/t GBP it would be beneficial for both.

C’mon Johnny, do a little research before you post such nonsense. The amount of revenue they generate is not even close. Go look at how many homes both are in and then do the math on how much ESPN gets from the cable and satellite companies PER SUBSCRIBER them compare that to how many subs Showtime has and what they get for each.
