Comments Thread For: Andre Berto: I Almost Walked Away After The Ortiz Rematch

By Thomas Gerbasi - After nearly 14 years in the pro game, Andre Berto doesn't get taken in by the pomp and circumstance of a big main event fight anymore. These days, he's all about getting on a plane and getting to the fight as soon as possible. "Yeah, I think that's where we are nowadays," he laughs. "We've done this for so long, it's like, Okay, all the work's been done, let's get to it.' All the young boy excitement just to see things, that tends to dim out a little bit because we've been to that stage plenty of times. So we're ready to just go to war."

Sometimes even the hardcore boxing fans do not take the time to appreciate warriors like Berto, Alexander, Ortiz, Lamont. These guys are no Floyd, but they fight with guts and enjoy the glory in a way that is touching to watch.

looking forward to seeing this fight - Berto will most likely call it a day after this. Unless he annihilates Devon, then of course Berto will challenge Manny Pacquiao

Respect to a long and fruitful career....something only a few can manage in this unforgiving business.

proper career. he got a disproportionate amount of hate for a couple of al haymon light touches. the taste of koing freddy hernadez in one stuck with him for a lot of his career. and that's in spite of the fact that the guy fought good fighters, hard punchers, and was in absolute f#cking wars.

lot of respect for the guy, he certainly earned his money and was in some great, great fights.

Solid fighter, nothing more, made more money he deserves. Hopefully Alexander KO`s him for good.

Berto been taking beatings close to a decade, about time he give it up....

If Porter knew how to throw a educated ko shot; he could have literally ended Berto career; the boy was sitting on the ropes dead

Berto knows this is a dangerous game and he better not think Alexander ain't coming to fight.

Remember when Berto was the undefeated WBC champ and was on the shortlist to fight Manny?
