Comments Thread For: Promoter Explains Why Stevenson vs. Alvarez Didn't Happen

NEW YORK Surrounded by reporters, Eleider Alvarez attempted to clear up a misconception. The Colombian contender clarified that he did not take any step-aside money to delay his WBC-mandated shot at light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson. Not even once, much less multiple times.

Still sounds skeptical to me!! I feel like they could have made the fight happen if they wanted to they have the same promoter. It could be a situation where they felt like they have two solid fighters and wanted to make the most money with both rather than have one of them suffer a setback. Who knows!!

this man just told us that his own fighter (beterbiev) turned down a fight with kovalev and didnt reply to him when he contact him about kovalev...THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE'S EXPOSED BETERBIEV...yet you are still questioning him about his honesty with his "own" fighters...STOP IT ALREADY!

he also said that kov and stevenson offered alvarez the same pay day...HE PICKED KOVALEV!!

he's turned down stevenson for 3 years already...

See how incredibly hard it is to explain things when fights that are supposed to happen doesn't?
Who would have time to listen to all those ****** lengthy explanations?
        No one.
It's like giving someone a remote control, and he'll change channels every few seconds.
Bottom line is if you want the fight, you make it happen no matter what.
If it doesn't, then bear the brunt of being called a duck.

Sadly this fight will never happen as both Alvarez and Stevenson are about to lose

... In fact, earlier, Beterbiev sued Michel in order to terminate the GYM promotional contract...

... On another hand, maybe Michel thinks that an undefeated and more experienced Alvarez would be more dangerous than Jack...

GYM (and maybe Team Alvarez as well) has been letting the Stevenson fight marinate. To their credit, they have built Alvarez up in stature, and he's a live dog vs Kovalev.

Hopefully that plan back fires and Jack wins.

I am fan of Stevenson but his inactivity with only fighting once a year and the lack of competition in his recent fights is very frustrating. I think Adonis is talented and has crazy power but his age and lack of activity make this fight with Badou a toss-up. One thing is for sure, unless your Hopkins, father time always wins.
