Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Promoter Breaks Down Latest on Canelo Rematch

There were some mixed messages sent out last week after it was erroneously reported that the rematch between IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) and Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) had been finalized for May 5th.

C’mon man! We just went through this like 4 months ago. What concessions need to be made.... maybe GGG feels like he edged the 1st one and deserves more pie????

Billy Jo is watching closely? Really? Billy Jo brings nothing to the table, not a dime and no fans and certainly not a fight. Saunders has shown himself to the world, everyone now they knows he's a boring runner that tries to peck away at what very few would even classify as a fight.

Brilliant by GBP, coming up with unreasonable conditions!
too risky ( losing would be a big blow to Canelos legacy) Go for BJS belt (BJS would prefer to fight him)
and let the GGG fight marinate some more until they have to bring the man to the ring in a wheelchair!

GGG should move to 168 already. At 36 years old, he doesn't have the handspeed anymore to dominate 160 like he used to. Probably not 168 either. But at least at 168, he might be a little faster. That's really the key with him. When he was fast enough to connect his power shots regularly, no one could compete with him. Once his speed declined enough that his power didn't land, that eliminated his #1 weapon. It's also illuminated to the people who didn't realize during his prime that he also has other exceptional weapons, like his jab, his chin, his glove defense, and so on, so it's helped shed light on his skills, but his #1 weapon was still his power, and once the speed goes to the point where you can't land it, then you immediately go from dominant to very beatable.

At 168, GGG should be able to land his power more regularly again. Of course, then they will be much bigger opponents in terms of absorbing that power. But, honestly, guys like Eubank Jr and Groves aren't that much bigger than BJS and Jacobs...

So, you know, whatever. I'm trying to wrack my brain for ways to make GGG's career interesting again, but when you're no longer in your prime, there's not much that can be done. What I really wanted was to see him fight these fights in his prime. So it's similar to Pacquiao... making moving down to 135 would make his career more interesting, but it's still not the same as if we'd seen him at his best weight in his prime. But, at least we got to see him fight the best in his prime, at whatever weight, unlike with GGG. But GGG might do better as he ages up at 168. Or not. All I know is his fight with Canelo is not very interesting anymore because it took way too long to make, and now he's not the same fighter.

                Be serious.

Ca$hnelo won the first fight (and it wasn't even all that close) and MarGGGarita is running her mouth about other fighters...she wants no part of the Mexican Stallion - CA$HNELO.

I think you are an idiot 99% of the time, but I agree with your signature from the 1st fight. Kovy won the first fight and, if you're being generous, it's 115-112 for Kovalev STILL. 114-113 for Kovalev is EXTREMELY generous for Ward. Saying Ward won is outright crazy.

Ca$hnelo did ICE MarGGGarita though. Felt so good watching it and feels even better watching you and other GGGoons juGGGle up MarGGGarita's balls...priceless

What I really hope is that GGG maybe stops training at Big Bear, and works with an expert on maintaining speed as you age. Start training new drills, doing more explosive training not just stamina training. Apparently living at altitude makes it so your muscles don't recover as you age after you work out, so I hope GGG fixes that now, better late than never, because that is probably the only adjustment at this point that could actually bring back some of his prime handspeed. Guys like Ward, Jacobs, Floyd, etc all train in altitude chambers I believe for specific amounts of time, but then sleep at sea level so that the oxygen is in the air to repair their muscles. That seems to work much better for maintaining speed as you age than living in altitude for months where your muscles can't recover at night because there's not enough oxygen in the air.

I really don't understand it. With all the modern tech available, why is Abel still having his guys sleep at altitude? Either live at sea level and have them train in an altitude chamber during the day, or live at altitude but give them a "sea level chamber" to sleep in at night. But to have them at altitude 24/7 is hurting their bodies because the workouts during the day break up the muscle tissues, but then there isn't enough oxygen in the air at night for those muscle tissues to fully repair themselves, so over time, the most explosive deep thin muscle fibers are worn down and destroyed, which causes your speed explosiveness AND power ALL to decline with age much quicker than normal. Why hasn't GGG's team made the adjustment to this yet? It's basically already too late, they needed to make it years ago to avoid wasting his prime, but you'd think after THREE bad performances in a row, by his standard, they would at least FINALLY try something different??? But I haven't seen any indications that they will!
