Comments Thread For: Jackson: Translator Caused 'Big Problem' in Kovalev's Corner

LAS VEGAS John David Jackson doesn't expect any surprises when walking Sergey Kovalev to the ring Saturday night. That's when Kovalev's trainer learned before his first fight against Andre Ward that an unidentified member of Kovalev's team would speak to Kovalev in Russian when they were between rounds.

A world class fighter, or world champion, should know what to do inside the ring, good advice or not from the corner. If he gets bad advice he can simply ignore the advice and do his own thing.

Ward and his team said this weeks ago. They said JDJ found out the wouldn't be allowed to speak in the corner right before the fight. How did they know this if JDJ didn't contact them for a job? When Ward says he knows about Kovalev's bad habits it's because JDJ told them.

Why can't they communicate in English? They train together and Jackson is the head trainer and they speak "boxing" so whats the problem.
Any trainer will tell you that you give ONE advice for offense and a reminder for defense. The less said the easier the instructions can be carried out.
Clearing the lungs with slow deep breaths along with a rinse and drink comes first then a short brief opponents analysis.

When you see corners "acting out" punches and more than one person speaking that fighters corner is ruining the one minute rest!

I don't like what I'm hearing about how Koval's training and corner is conducted. Sounds very amateurish and lacks discipline.

I think Jackson is getting dumped on. Hate to hear excuses after the fact but before the results is even worse!

It did look very suspect how Jackson wasn't saying much, if anything, in the corner when the fight wore on. I genuinely thought it was a Hatton–Mayweather Sr. fallout all over again, but if a dodgy translator is all it was... well, team Kovalev had better make good on it this time.

JDJ throwing other mfers under the bus now huh?!?! lol.

Who's like JDJ's #2 guy that he trains? If Kovalev fires him is his best guy some top 50 guy or something bleak like that?

after round one you saw jdj try to speak and kovalev immediately hushed him up to let the russian behind the ropes speak. they showed this on the HBO show. this is why this clown got on the phone with team ward looking for a job. he told all details and secrets because he was hurt and bitter. i really dont understand why kovalev keeps him around. what other boxer have you seen in a fight telling his trainer to stfu. I've never seen that.
