They wanted to kick ass. Jim Kelly was searching for Bruce to teach him as well.
Because Lee was considered the best.
The best at what? He wasn't the best at fighting, he didn't ****ing fight.

Best at defending himself in street situations.
Steve McQueen was recomended bru e Lee by top competitors of the day.
Top competitors back then considered Bruce the best at fighting.
Skipper Mullins, Louis Delgado etc etc
The greatest testimonies make him a breast fighter. Even raycharles and Stevie wonder can see that. Just like they knows Sophia loren and maryln monroe is beautiful.
Ali considered Bruce Lee a great fighter. Ali's daughter confirmed that.
So get off your high horse and delusions of grandeur

kimbo slice in his prime would manhandle this guy. absolutely manhandle him.

bruce lee on the heavybag, lul. "here, let me flail around on this thing for a while. ok i'm tired. you try."

He wasn't just an actor. He was trained and formed his own style. He was an amateur boxer in his teens. He became focussed on making movies but there's plenty of people around his time who attest to the fact that he beat a number of other martial artists, like the time he was challenged by a rival master when he was teaching in the US and beat the master.

Chuck Norris won a triple crown in Karate tournaments and still took lessons from Lee:

“The truth is Lee was a formidable opponent with a chiseled physique and technique. I totally enjoyed sparring and just spending time with him. He was as charismatic and friendly in the ring and at home as he was on film. His confidence and wit were dazzling, and sometimes even debilitating to others. […] Lee was lightning fast, very agile and incredibly strong for his size.?
            - Chuck Norris

Sparring with someone doesn't mean they're taking lessons. If that was the case Lee could have been taking lessons from Norris, with Norris actually being a world champion.

You are clueless as hell. I am talking SPECIFICS! Let me simplify this for an obvious simpleton like you. A boxer in a street fight with no rules against a 10th degree black belt who is trained to kill, knows all the weakness, understands the anatomy and where to strike from the feet to the head would cripple a boxer! Get it? Got it? GOOD!

When Norris calls someone formidable, agile and incredibly strong then it means he was a good fighter. BTW Lee has been praised by other athletes not just Chuck. He's a legend.
