    China's WBO flyweight champion Zou Shiming recently announced that he has joined up with Chinese boxing tournament League of Fists as a boxing promoter. Despite signing on as a promoter, the 35-year-old - who recently defeated Thai boxer Prasitsak Phaphrom in Las Vegas to claim the world title - has no plans for retirement.

          This dude is pretty smart, got a world title, made some what of a name for himself (prob x20 bigger in China) and trying to take on the boxing promoter game early on in China while its all ripe.

            The Chinese government is communist in name only, and will support anything nationalist on the world stage, especially if it brings in big money

              Nothing new. It's inevitable. He can own rights to the entire Chinese market and no non-Chinese promoter would complain.

                I swear, boxers make it sound like being a promoter is cheap and anyone with a million dollars can do it, then you see most of them fail miserably and wonder who's the next boxer with mediocre earnings to try to be a promoter instead of just buying land or something lol

                Aside from DLH, (and Mayweather who's more of a work in progress and hasn't failed yet), most promoters weren't even boxers, these guys were lawyers or some big businessmen before becoming promoters, or were around the sport in another way other than being inside the ring as boxers

                As far as top American boxing promoters go:

                Arum/Top Rank - Harvard Law School
                DiBella/DiBella Entertainment - Tufts University and Harvard Law School
                Gary Shaw - According to Boxrec, was Inspector for NJSAC for 28 years before becoming COO of Main Events
                Al Haymon - Economics and MBA at Harvard, big Music promoter before becoming a boxing promoter

                  My question is, does he even have a million dollars? Doesn't Zou have like 5 fights total? Big name or not he couldn't have made that much money in boxing yet - where is he going to get the millions needed to be a big name promoter?

                    You're right but maybe in endorsements and TV deals? Bob Arum himself said Zhou Shiming has the second most endorsement deals of any Top Rank fighter behind Pacquiao. He says he is endorsed by Beats by Dre, Pepsi, Everlast, Anta (Chinese brand). He also has 10s of millions of fans who tune into his fights in China, so I imagine with that also comes lucrative TV deals. And despite having only 5 fights, he's the 4th highest paid athlete in China
