Comments Thread For: Frank Warren's Take on Pacquiao's Win, Mayweather Rematch

Nigh on 18 years after winning his first world title, Manny Pacquiao was at it again at the Thomas and Mack Center on Saturday night. No spring chicken at 37, but the Senator certainly still possesses a spring in his step and had enough left in the tank to comfortably negotiate the threat of Jessie Vargas, who is no slouch.

Warren discredited himself with one statement about Mayweather, "...rarely took on contenders riding the crest of a wave...".
Laughable when Mayweather took titles from 8 of his last 13 opponents and the ones he didn't take titles from included an undefeated Ricky Hatton, interim WBC 147 champion Robert Guerrero and top 3 P4P ranked JMM and Shane Mosely. I guess Warren was basing his criticism solely on Andre Berto.

Hatton had 1 fight at 147 before fighting FM, spent his career at 140.
Guerrero, 1 fight at 147 before Floyd, best days at 135 and below.
JMM, never at 147 before FM, top P4P guy at 135 and below.
Sugar Shane, 40 years old with 5 losses when he fought Floyd.
I think there's more to it than just naming fighters on a boxer's resume. Floyd was undefeated and best of his era, but unfortunately for him, talent wise the era was pretty thin. IMO

Hatton was undefeated and moved up to face Mayweather. The same exact move up that Bradley, Algieri and Rios made when they fought Pacquiao at Welterweight.

Robert Guerrero was the WBC interim Welterweight Champion and Mayweather was WBC Welterweight Champion when they fought. Guerrero hasn't fought below 147 since that fight either. Being the interim champ certainly made him a contender which makes Warren's statement suspect at best.

JMM did jump from Lightweight to Welterweight to face Mayweather but isn't that the exact same jump Pacquiao made to fight De La Hoya a year before? Hmmmmm

Sugar had seen better days but in his fight prior to fighting Mayweather, Sugar Shane TKO'd Margarito and took Margarito's WBA Welterweight title which is why when Mayweather fought Mosely, both were respectively ranked #2 and #3 P4P and #3 and #2 as Welterweights. That would make Warren's statement rubbish as well.

Not about just naming fighters, it's about being honest about the entire story. Most certainly can't be critical of those opponents in a Mayweather/Pacquiao discussion when Mayweather beat 3 out of the 4 (JMM, Hatton and Mosely) at Welterweight before Pacquiao did.

Almost forgot......Mayweather had exactly one 147 fight in his career before winning his 1st 147 title. : )
