"He didn’t just beat Matthysse in September 2013. He did it rather easily."

No, he didn't. Clear win, but it was not even remotely easy.

"Besides, no one would’ve faulted Garcia for losing to Mayweather, who wound up meeting Marcos Maidana in a reasonably competitive May 2014 fight"

Reasonably competitive? The only fighter who ever gave him tougher was Castillo. Seriously, WTF?

Everyone was on board with Garcia after the Matthysse fight, and he has done nothing but ruin that momentum. People always have an excuse for the crap fights he has taken, but those excuses have yet to turn out correct while he continues to take crap fights. He deserves the hate he is getting, and while I believe when they say the Thurman fight is next, I can't assume it's a given when just this year a fighter I never questioned gave the same spiel about a fight being next. That fighter then ducked that fight as blatantly as a duck can happen.

If Garcia wants to regain any of the credibility he once earned, he better fight Thurman or someone of similar standing next.

By Keith Idec - Danny Garcia is well aware of the often intense criticism directed at him over the past 2 years. The undefeated fighter from Philadelphia just tries to avoid paying it much mind. He has had to do that throughout this week because a large faction of boxing fans and media have taken issue with Garcia taking a tune-up fight against Colombia's Samuel Vargas on November 12 in his hometown...

... Well... As well, Danny may "combat" anybody by being a anti-global warming activist or an endangered species protector or a pro-vegan or whatever...

When the writer states that Garcia beat Matthysse easily, I have to believe he didn't watch the fight.
It was a close, brutal fight and neither guy has been the same since.

A great deal of the criticism has 2 do w/2 too many non-title fights and poor quality of the fighters he was fighting when he defends the title... he needs to step up to better quality opponents , that's obvious...

It really is ridiculous when people say Garcia won easily. I don't know if that has to do with expectations going in or people who just don't know how to score fights, but I hear it way too much and it plain isn't true. FFS, there are those who say Matthysse only won 3 rounds. It's ******.
