Comments Thread For: Liam Smith: I'll Beat Canelo - The Haters Can Go F*** Themselves!
Anyone who thinks Canelo Alvarez is gonna stroll into AT&T Stadium this weekend and walk all over Liam Smith can "go f*** themselves" ... this according to Smith.
If it helps I'll say I hate him, but it's not him. Anybody ever ring a doorbell and run? That's it. Canelo rang GGG's doorbell and ran. Now I'm hoping he trips on the back fence.
If you ask me, I think that it is absolutely necessary for a fighter to work up a good sweat in the dressing room and enter the arena close to being on a second wind, and you have to be able to relax.
I think Smith is excited enough to work up the real good sweat, but I think he is going to have trouble relaxing on the big stage.
When I didn't get a good sweat in the dressing room, I got tired quick.
And when i couldn't relax, I tried to fight a style that I never tried before.
I think smith isn't going to be able to relax and lose his game, maybe get overly aggressive or too cautious. I think this is his first PPV, and the biggest crowd he ever fought in front of.
When you can't relax, you lose the ability to judge the distance you are fighting at, so you either try to get in the other guy's chest or fight outside your reach.
If Smith lands a few stiff jabs right off the bat, I like his chances. But if his first few jabs are too short, I think he will try to brawl, which could be a disaster for him.
If I was Smith I would take a good look at Canelo when he gets in the ring. If Canelo comes in cold, I'd put pressure on him and have him breathing hard in round one.
If Canelo comes in wet, I'd try to make him come to me and catch him coming in, and counter punch.
