Southpaw vs Southpaw. Sammy looked confused in there.

The slicker guy won fair and square. Sammy will learn from this and be more prepared the next time he has to fight a lefty.

Sammy will be back no doubt, he lost to an absolute beast.

He's got the skill and heart to hang with anyone, put him in there with somebody like Berto next

not really. Diaz looked tiny in there compared to sammy.
why did sammy only plant his feet the last 2 rounds? why didnt he capitalise on diaz doing nothing for the first 1.5 minutes?

maybe get a new trainer? he had no idea what to do...

Diaz is a great in fighter, maybe he lacks the size, but he is really good working angles, working to the body and is really hard to get sparring for a fighter like him.

Diaz is a monster, don't let his height fool you, he's built like Porter and very strong in the pocket. He hung with Granados and Peterson in the pocket, two expert inside fighters.

no one was calling him a monster before the fight...

This was Sammy's coming out party and he got exposed
Don't pretend diaz is amazing though, obviously got pedigree being a gold medalist an all, but he looked very sloppy and wild at times, all it took was Constant pressure and that caused sammy to fall apart.

But he was taking the beginning minute and a half of each round off, that was sammys chance to get the rounds in the bag but he looked too tentative.
He should of done what he did in the 9th and said ok then, let's fight and traded with diaz, and i guarantee Diaz would of got stopped.

I was? I picked Sammy to win but I was very high on Diaz. He's a two time Olympian, a gold medalist and should be an unbeaten pro with wins over Granados, Peterson and now Sammy. That's a serious resume. He's beaten decent C level guys like Lartei, Bracero as well. This is all within 18 fights.

He didn't get 'exposed' at all, he lost a fight against an extremely skilled, experienced and tough fighter. It's just a loss, nothing he can't come back from, it's happened to some of the best fighters of all time.

come on man, he looked totally clueless in there.
Diaz is skilled and got the W.. props where it's due.
But let's not pretend Diaz is a legit welterweight either, he would get DESTROYED by anyone in the top 5 in the division.

                    Respect to both fighters.
                    Vasquez was NOT exposed.

He lost to an outstanding fighter who by all accounts should be undefeated in a great fight in which both had their moments.

Heck i came away with a lot more respect for Sammy in this losing effort than any of the other fights he had won!

Boxing needs more of these kinds of "evenly matched" fights instead of the steady diet of catch weight nonsense we are being fed where the outcome is all but guaranteed.

Sammy will be back, stronger and wiser.
Hopefully this victory opens doors for Felix.

Win win all the way around.

In the mean time , boxing's prima donnas are cherry picking who they fight and and laughing all the way to the bank because they know YOU will pay to watch their farce!!

                    Gotta love boxing

I'm a big fan of Sammy Vasquez and you have to give him credit for stepping into the ring with a skilled operator like Diaz. Being a fan of his, I was obviously rooting for him to come out with the victory but going into this fight, I knew he would have a tough time with Diaz. Sammy is as tough and dedicated as any fighter and I think he will prove his resilience by using this experience to work on the problems he needs to fix in the gym before getting in the ring again.
As far as the decision is concerned, has anyone ever seen a recount like that before? Even with the proper score cards after the deduction was counted, it was still too close for me. I was going for Sammy all the way but there's no way he only lost because of a point deduction. Let's be real for a minute and admit it wasn't a close fight. After the first couple of rounds, Sammy couldn't establish his jab to find range and set up his combinations at all. Diaz may just have the type of style that works perfectly against Sammy but he would've been better off switching up his attack a bit, using some faints and lateral movement.
