Danny Jacobs: GGG is the best of my generation - Will fight him when money is right

    Source:

He wants to fight GGG but wants to get paid more than what he was payed for Quillin. Says GGG is the best of his generation and that a fight against GGG is good for his legacy. Says GGG is the pinnacle of the MW division. BUT HE RESUME DOE.

Jacobs (31-1, 28 knockouts) called Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) “the pinnacle of the division” and wants to win another title to enhance the matchup before they meet in a unification fight. “It’s the most competitive fight,” Jacobs said Saturday before a press conference to announce Jacobs as the new face of the “Brooklyn Boxing” lifestyle brand at Barclays Center. “I would like to fight GGG, but I just want people to understand my perspective and respect it and not look at it like, ‘Oh, he’s just trying to avoid GGG’ and stuff like that. No, I want to fight him. This is something for my legacy. I can’t retire and not say I fought the best in my generation – at least try.”

Jacobs referenced his fight with Peter Quillin and how Jacobs waited more than a year to make the fight, during which time his purse ballooned from a proposed $250,000 to more than a cool million. “I’m not going to fight a guy like GGG and make the same amount of money for fighting a Peter Quillin,” Jacobs said. “It doesnt make sense. Yeah, GGG is on the list but it’s all about doing it when it makes sense,” Jacobs went on. “I’m not going to have people force me — meaning those Twitter thugs or anybody else force me to fight somebody when I can make so much more (money). So am I wrong to want these things to get as much as I can possible from a fight that is at the top notch level? Hate me if you want but that’s what it is.”

At least he is being honest..

In an ideal world we would get ggg-Eubanks, and saunders-jacobs, and the winners would meet in early 2017...

I respect it but he better respect the ppl don't give a damn about that. It's not unfair as a fan to want to see these fights. It's what should be happening to begin with.

Here is my problem with these kind of statements. They seem honest and everything, but that's not how this business works. Fighters' purses are common knowledge to the fans, and the promoters are intricately aware of what each fighter makes.

Golovkin's best purse is $2M vs. Lemieux. His highest paid opponent so far has been Lemieux, who made $1.5M. Jacobs made $1M vs. Quillin. His idea that he can make a lot more money off Golovkin simply has no basis. Golovkin is not Mayweather, Pac, Canelo or Cotto. He just can't pay "so much more".

What Jacobs is actually saying is that he will wait and hope that either:
          1) Golovkin becomes a crossover superstar who can pay him insane amount
          2) Gets old
          3) Loses to someone else.

In other words, it smells, looks and feels like a duck. And that's exactly what it is.

He's right. Lou Dibella said a couple of weeks ago that there isn't enough money for a GGG-Jacobs fight. If any fight needs marinating it's this one. GGG-Canelo is PPV ready. And with that deal Jacobs just made to become the face of Brooklyn Boxing they're on pace to marinate the fight.

I keep trying to tell ya'll nobody is afraid of GGG, they just want to be paid for the risk. Like Jacobs said, I'm not about to fight GGG for the same money I got fighting Quillin. And he's right.

There is no money in a GGG fight. That's why he has to travel to the UK to fight Eubank. Think about that for a minute. The IBF, WBA, WBC, undefeated MW champion of the world has to travel and is the B-side to a domestic level UK fighter. He doesn't have the money to get a domestic level fighter here over here. Canelo is bringin Smith here and Smith is the champ. GGG fans need to put the pressure on his team to come up with some money.
